Mongolia Tourist Visa: Requirements, Steps & Tips

Travelers planning to visit the country will need a Mongolia tourist visa. However, the tourist visa is valid for only 30 days. The stay can be extended for more 30 days, through visa extensions, offered by the Immigration Agency of Mongolia. The visa on arrival option is available for visitors coming from a particular set of countries.

30-day extension visa is available on request. Visitors have to apply for the same at the Immigration Agency of Mongolia office in Ulaanbaatar.
 

To obtain a tourist Visa for Mongolia, travelers will have to submit the following documents along with a fully filled visa application, which is available for download on the embassy website.

• Original passport valid for a minimum of six months before the intended date of travel
• Photo
• Copy of hotel booking in Mongolia
• Copy of the transit details
• Visa processing fees

An ordinary tourist visa for Mongolia can be obtained by providing the visa application at the respective Mongolian embassy located in the home country of the tourist. Usually, the visa is valid for 30 days, post that the visitor has to apply for visa extension from the Immigration Agency of Mongolia. The procedure needs to be completed within seven days of arrival.

Generally, visa processing takes around 3 days to complete – depending on the rush. However, the expedited services are available on additional charges.    

Mongolia Tourist Visa on arrival is available for travelers coming to Mongolia from European countries, where the Mongolian consulate/diplomats are unavailable. Also, visitors can apply for transit visa at the borders of the country. The transit visa allows the visitors to stay inside the country for 10 days, post that they have to leave Mongolia.

For a transit visa, the visitor must belong to the list of nations eligible for on-arrival tourist visa. On-arrival visa (for 30-days) is available for the following nations.

• Tourists failing to apply for VISA extension, post their 30 days stay, might be denied exit from the country for a temporary period. Heavy fines might be levied as well.
• On arrival Mongolia tourist visa is available for tourists coming from countries like Spain, Portugal, Romania, and Croatia. The on-arrival visa is available for 30 days.
