Mongolia Visa Requirements & Application Tips

Any International person entering Mongolia need to have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the country. Also, the foreigner should have a valid Mongolian visa except those from countries with any bilateral arrangement to waive off the requirement. Individuals can apply for the visa at the consular mission of Mongolia in their respective country or in a location that is closest to them.

The Republic of Philippines, Malaysia, The Republic of Kazakhstan, The state of Israel, Hong Kong (SAR) China, The Krygyz Republic, Ukraine, The United States of America, The Republic of Cuba, Macau (SAR) China, The Lao people's Democratic Republic, The kingdom of Thailand, Japan, The Federal Republic of Germany, The Republic of Belarus, The Republic of Turkey, The Republic of Serbia, Canada, The Russian Federation, The Federative Republic of Brazil, The Republic of Singapore, The Argentine Republic, Orient Republic of Uruguay, The Republic of Chile.

Besides, there are 35 countries where the people with diplomatic and official passport are also exempted from the Visa to Mongolia.
 

Mongolia Requirements for a Tourist Visa

1. You need to submit a completed application form along with the original passport which should have a 6-month validity before the intended travel date.
2. You need to have a 3.5 by 4.5 cm photo which should be exactly in length as mentioned.
3. You have to present a copy of the hotel booking or accommodation information where you are going to stay along with the copy of the train or the flight tickets.
4. Lastly, a proof of sufficient funds such as the bank statement for the last six months is needed.
 

Obtaining Visa for Business, Employment, Study Purposes

Get the application form, complete it and submit along with the original passport. Carry a 3.5 by 4.5 cm photo. The ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide the approval which is applicable for visitors traveling for business or other non-governmental organization purposes. The immigration agency will be approving the visa for other types such as employment, student and likewise. The visa fee is non-refundable.

 Tip: An important note is that the approval for all these kind of visas must be applied by person or entity who are inviting you to the country.

 

Requirements for Official or Diplomatic Visa

After completing the application form, submit it along with the original passport which should have a validity of minimum 6 months before the intended date of travel to the country. Provide a 3.5 by 4.5 photo which is mandatory to follow the measurement. There has to be an official request by the sending authority or the ministry of Foreign Affairs or foreign diplomatic missions with the visa application. Depending upon the purpose of the visit, the visa fee may be waived off.
 

Mongolia Visa Application Tips

1. The visa fee is non-refundable and all the documents that you present has to be in the hard copy. The embassy does not accept the soft copies of any documents.
2. Sometimes to prove the purpose of your visit, the visa officer might ask to submit some more additional documents.
3. Generally, tourist visa is valid for 30 days in Mongolia. It can, however, be further extended to another 30 days at the immigration agency of Mongolia.
4. You have to apply for the extension in no less than four days before the duration of your existing visa expires.
5. The payment for the tourist visa can be done at UOB Bank (account name - Embassy of Mongolia).
 

Visa on Arrival Information

Tourists who are coming from various European Nations which do not have a Mongolian diplomatic office can obtain a Visa on arrival. This is available at the airport in Ulaanbaatar as well as in the Mongolian border points. Transit Visa can be applied at the Mongolia borders if the individual is from an European country but does not have any Mongolian diplomatic presence and has to take an onward flight or train from here.

Generally, the Transit Visa is valid for 10 days in the country. It is necessary that you must contact the relevant diplomatic mission to find out if your country is among those who is eligible for a visa on arrival. To fasten the processing time, travelers are requested to fill up the application form before arriving in Mongolia. The fee must be paid upon arrival.

Visitors who are coming to the country for a purpose which is not related to tourism can also be issued a visa on arrival if they meet the following requirements-
• Coming from a country which does not have a Mongolian diplomatic mission.
• Inviting person or entity should apply for the Visa on arrival approval request at the immigration agency of Mongolia before the expected date of arrival.
• Government official who has an invitation from the government and public organization which has applied for the visa approval at the consular department of the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.
 

Tips

1. Generally, those who are travelling for less than 90 days are considered a temporary visitor and anyone living here for more than 90 days are foreign resident. The validity of the visa ranges between 90 days to 1 year depending on the number of entries and the length of the stay.
2. For Mongolia visa, you should apply at least 15 days before your date of leaving. It typically ranges between 2 to 10 business days. However, for express visa, you can get it within 24 to 48 hours.
