may i know on July went to datong. Is it the summer hot season?

According to the previous statistics, the temperature of July may range from 60 F to 80 F. It's the summer season. But it won't be extremely hot. There may have several cloudy and rainy days that can bring cool feelings. About the clothes, you are advised to bring light jackets, T-shirts, shorts, jeans and other summer clothes. :)

Datong on Winter

Is it ok to travel there in winter? Planning to visit Yungang Grottoes and hanging Monastery this coming Feb.

Yeah, it is fine to visit in winter. You may find so different views of Yunggang Grottoes. However, an official news shows that the Hanging Monastery has been closed since mid Oc. 2015 for maintenance. The reopen time is unknown.

Well, as far as I know, from August to October every year is the tourisem festival.
The official doesn't say the exact date yet. You can keep close attention on that. :-)
