This morning, your guide will pick you up from your hotel for a 1.5-hour boat ride to Maafushi’s famous nurse shark snorkeling site. Watch these gentle giants swim in groups, their large bodies showing charming expressions as they circle you, creating a cinematic scene. Though nurse sharks can grow up to 3 meters (10 feet) long, they are typically peaceful and unlikely to attack humans unless provoked. Still, it’s important to be respectful: avoid touching the sharks, especially their tails, and keep your body parts away from their mouths. Sudden or aggressive movements might startle them. With your experienced guide, you’ll be able to swim and observe the nurse sharks gliding past you safely.

As we return around noon, treat yourself to a hearty meal on your own. Maafushi, one of the Maldives’ best-equipped local islands, offers a wide range of affordable water activities. This afternoon is free for you to enjoy activities such as paragliding, jet skiing, sea kayaking, or sunset fishing at your own expense. Please ensure your safety by choosing reputable operators.

★ Special Inclusion: Dinner with a Local Family

Compared to luxurious resort islands, local islands offer a unique opportunity to experience authentic local life. Tonight, you’ll share a meal with a local family in their home, gaining a real taste of Maldivian culture. Due to the geography and Southeast Asian influences, locals mainly eat tuna, rice, and potatoes, often prepared with coconut milk and spices, or as part of the Maldivian curry Mas Riha. Since the island is predominantly Muslim, alcohol and pork are not permitted. Please dress modestly by covering your shoulders and knees, and be respectful of local customs during your visit. After enjoying a memorable night, your guide will escort you back to your hotel.

Today you’ll have a full day of free time to explore Maafushi Island at your own pace. If you’re unsure how to enjoy the island best, consider the following activity suggestions:

1. Sandbank Excursion: The secluded sandbanks near Maafushi are a hallmark of the Maldives, appearing only at low tide. We recommend going in the morning to enjoy the optimal lighting and temperature for photography, swimming, and sunbathing.
* Tips: It’s recommended to bring a waterproof bag for your phone and clothes, and use ample sunscreen along with a sun hat and sunglasses.
2. Sunset Dolphin Cruise: Experience a dolphin-watching tour led by an expert captain during the dolphins’ active hours. If you’re lucky, you’ll see herds of dolphins leaping from the water in a spectacular display!
3. Night Fishing: In the Maldives’ abundant waters, experience the excitement of catching large fish using only a basic hand-operated fishing line. Even beginners can quickly learn and become skilled anglers with a brief teaching!

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel for a 20-minute boat trip to Gulhi, a small island that looks like a tiny pearl in the Maldives. To give you enough time to experience the island’s charm, we will stay overnight on Gulhi Island, allowing a full day of leisure activities at your own pace.

Consider visiting the local shipyard for an authentic cultural experience. Unlike highly commercialized resort islands, Gulhi’s shipyard remains largely unchanged by tourism. It continues to serve as a hub for daily boat docking, repairs, and fishing, showcasing the traditional Maldivian maritime lifestyle. This blend of local life and tourism is increasingly rare in the Maldives. If you wish, your guide can connect you with the local residents to learn more about their genuine fishing village culture. Alternatively, relax at Bikini Beach, where soft sand and coconut palms create a perfect setting for sunbathing, strolling, or picnicking. You can also snorkel to see colorful coral reefs and tropical fish, or end your day with an exhilarating sunset fishing trip.

On your final day in the Maldives, your guide will pick you up from your hotel for a public ferry ride to Male, which takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Upon arrival, we’ll start a brief city tour by private car. Our first stop is the Male Friday Mosque, the oldest building in Male. It stands as both a spiritual core of local faith and a showcase of skilled craftsmanship using local materials – coral blocks, coral pillars, and coral carvings throughout the roof, ceiling, and foundation. Additionally, you’ll see many traditional Maldivian wood carvings and lacquerware, highlighting the artistry of Maldivian artisans dating back to the 17th century.

Next, take a walk with your guide through Sultan Park, once the royal gardens of the Sultan’s palace. Afterward, visit the local market to immerse yourself in Male’s genuine atmosphere. Here, you’ll see fresh ingredients from different atolls, including Kurumba coconuts, bananas, papayas, and breadfruit. If interested, it’s advisable to try them before making a purchase.
