Hi Jessye, there is no direct bullet train from Hongkong to Shantou and Chaozhou right now. But the good news is that Guangzhou-Hong Kong High-speed Railway is expected to open soon at the end of September this year. You may keep an eye on this.

For your reference, I've heard that there is one tour-bus line from Hongkong to Shantou city. You can take it at the Kowloon Bay Richland Gardens, Wah Fu Estate, Queen's Road West or Jordan Culture Road Stations. It departs at around 9:30am-10:30am and takes 5 hours or so to Shantou City. For more details, you are suggested to check online.

As for the route from Hong Kong to Chaozhou, you can transfer to Shenzhen North Station first and then take the train to Chaoshan Station in Chaozhou City. And if you would like to go to Shantou City from Chaoshan Station, you can take Bus No. 181, spending around 50 mintues.

From the airport, you can take Bus E22A or A29 to Kowloon Bay, Kwun Tong Road Station, from where you can walk or hail a taxi to Kowloon Bay Qi Ren Street. The distance between Kowloon Bay, Kwun Tong Road and Kowloon Bay Qi Ren Street is around 1.1 km, and the charge will be around HKD 20 if you hail a taxi.

Upon arrival, you may take the direct shuttle bus to Shantou. The departing time is 9:30am, and the bus journey will be around 5 hours.

If you hold US passports, you can stay in Hong Kong for 90 days without having a visa.

The main attractions in Hong Kong are Victoria Harbour, Victoria Peak, Madame Tussauds, Causeway Bay, Repulse Bay, Lantau Island, Central Hong Kong, etc. As you have children, the Ocean Park and Disneyland Resort are also highly recommended.

Shuttle bus is the cheapest way. You can take no. A21 and get off at the 17th stop - Hong Kong Science Museum, Chatham Road South. It takes 75min and 33HKD. Your hotel then can be reached within 3-5min by walking.
