Sizes of Star Hotels and Their Business Statistics

Compared with the previous year, the size of the star-rated hotels continued a steady growth generally in 2011. There were 11,676 star-rated hotels in China by the end of 2011. Among them, 615 were 5-star hotels, 70 more than in 2010; 2,148 were 4-star hotels, an increase of 146 hotels; 5,473 were 3-star hotels, a rise of 89 hotels; 3,276 were 2-star hotels, reduced 360 hotels; 164 were 1-star hotels, lessened 48 hotels.

In the year, all of the star-rated hotels owned 1.4749 million rooms and 2.5863 million beds. Their fixed assets totaled 458.713 billion RMB. The yearly occupancy rate of the star-rated hotels on average was 61.1%, up 0.82% on the previous year.

In 2011, the total revenue of all the star-rated hotels amounted to 231.482 billion RMB. They turned over 14.784 billion RMB of business tax to the state. Of all the star-rated hotels, the 3,646 state-owned ones realized revenues of 71.309 billion RMB, and turned over a business tax of 3.916 billion RMB to the state; the 492 Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and foreign invested star-rated hotels reached 33.746 billion RMB in sales, turning over 2.083 billion business tax to the state.

Sizes of Travel Services and Their Business Statistics

By the end of 2011, the travel services included in statistics summed to 23,690, up 4.0% than 2010. They had a total asset of 71.117 billion RMB, up 6.8% compared with the previous year. The travel services as a whole earned a total revenue of 287.177 billion RMB, up 8.4% on the previous year. They turned in 1.306 billion RMB business tax to the state, up 2.3%.

The international travel services received a number of 14.5496 million oversea tourists that stayed for a total of 61.8181 million days, up 7.6% and 34.0% respectively. The number of overseas tourists organized by international travel services numbered 22.8081 million, staying for a total of 71.6544 million days, down 5.3% and up 27.7% respectively.

The travel services organized 137.1075 million domestic travelers who stayed overnight, up 14.7% than the past year. They spent 358.5401 million days on their travel, up 9.2%. The number of domestic travelers who stayed overnight under the arrangement by travel services reached 160.0050 million person-times and a total of 336.7413 million days, up 19.5% and 16.8% respectively on the previous year. 
 

Education and Training on Travel and Tourism

By the end of 2011, there were totally 2208 tourism colleges in China, with a total enrolment of 1,083,300 students. Among them, 1115 were tourism colleges and tourism departments in colleges and universities, 148 more than in 2010. The enrolment had reached 599,800, decreased 3,700. The left 1093 were secondary vocational tourism colleges, 92 more than in 2010, with a total enrolment of 483,400 students, 6,900 less than in the preceding year. 

The number of in-service staff of tourism who received relevant training courses reached 4.3565 million people, 90,000 persons more than in the preceding year, up 2.1%.
