Chengde Transportation


As Chengde is so close to Beijing, about 180 kilometers (112 miles) from Beijing Capital International Airport, there is only a small-scale airport in the south of the city. Only non-scheduled chartered flights operate between these two cities from time to time. Therefore, you can take the long-distance bus from Chengde bus station to Beijing and take a plane from Beijing Capital International Airport in accordance with your needs. The journey will take between 3 and 4hours to Beijing and the ticket price is CNY 50.

Chengde Railway Station lies on Wulie Lu in the southeast of the city. Routes include Jingcheng (rails liking Beijing), Shicheng (rails liking Shijiazhuang), Shencheng (rails liking Shenyang) and Chenglong (rails liking Longhua County) railways convergeon this station. There are now trains to Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Shenyang, Baotou, Dandong, Ulanhot, Chifeng, Tongliao and Jinzhou available from the railway station.

The city is 230 kilometers (143 miles) from Beijing, so you can use Beijing asa transfer station. Tourists can take trains from Beijing to destinations all over China with tickets purchased from Chengde Railway Station as it has linked to the ticket network for the main stations in Beijing.

The trains from Beijing to Chengde takes about 5-7 hours on the way. Ticket fare is around CNY130 for a soft sleeper, CNY90 for a hard sleeper, and CNY40 for a hard seat.

Long-distance Bus

The highway links of the city are very convenient and include the Jingcheng Tourist Highway, Weicheng Highway (Weichang County to Chengde) and three national highways linking the city with Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, and Inner Mongolia, etc. It will take you 3.5 hours to travel from Beijing to the city via the Jingcheng Tourist Highway.

There are three long-distance buses that run to nearby cities such as Beijing,Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and Zhangjiakou daily from there. Mini buses run every 30 minutes from 06:00 until 16:00 between Chengde Long-distance Bus Station and Beijing Xizhimen Long-distance Station daily.

In addition, regular bus services link every county of the city departing from Western Bus Station and Northern Bus Station daily.

Some destinations from the Western Bus Station: Weichang County, Longhua County, Fengning, Luanping County, depart every 15 minutes.

Destinations from the Northern Bus Station include Pingquan County, Chifeng, Chengde County (Xiabancheng Town), and depart every 15 minutes.


This city is not big, so you can easily get to every corner of the city. Most bus ticket fees start at CNY1 but are never more than CNY5; many of the buses are self-service and charge CNY 1 for one journey.
Bus Nos. 1, 2, 5, 7, 11, 15 will take you to the Railway Station.
Bus Nos. 5, 6, 10, 11, 15 will take you to the Mountain Resort.


Taking taxi is a convenient way to travel in town and suburb. The standard taxi fare is CNY6 for the first 2 kilometers (1.2 miles). It costs CNY1.4 and CNY1.8 per additional kilometer (0.6 mile), respectively for cars with the emission volume lower and higher than 1.5 liters (0.4 gallon). In addition, each ride charges CNY1 fuel fee.

Can you provide an estimate for taking a private taxi from PEK airport to chengde?
And will I be able to get that per kilometer rate or is it more likely drivers will ask for a lot more?

The distance is around 290km between them. I don't think there is taxi driver will take you.

The school I will be at in chengde said they could arrange a private car to Beijing but it was rather pricey... Was hoping I could arrange something cheaper on my own

Could u pls share the timetable or schedule of bus from Chengde to Beijing?
My plan is on 22 Oct from 18:00. Which station in Chengde I can get on, and which station in Beijing I have to get off? Does it take about 3.5 hr?

You can take bus from North Chengde Coach station to Beijing Coach station. It departs from 6:00 to 17:00 with interval of 1-2 hours and CNY85. Yes, it takes around 3.5 hours.

There is no direct bus from airport. You can take express train to Dongzhimen station, and take metro line 2 to Beijing Railway station. From there you can take train to Chengde train station.

I plan to go to Qinhuangdao after visit Chengde. Are there daily buses? If yes,do you have information about the Bus Schedules , how long does it take and how much does it cost ?

Yes, you can take bus from East Coach Station to Qinuhangdao. The bus operates from 7:40 to 17:00 every 1.5 hours. It takes about CNY100 per person and the duration is about 4.5 hours.
