Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center
Notice: The Dramatic Arts Center is under maintenance, and it is expected to reopen in 2019.
Shanghai is the cradle of Chinese drama. In its nearly 100 years of development, drama plays a very important role in the spread of culture. Up to today, the city is still outstanding for drama performance and is especially famous as home to the Dramatic Arts Center.
Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center is the only national drama center in the city. It was established in 1995 by combining two famous drama troupes – Shanghai People's Arts Center Troupe and Youth Drama Troupe. At present, it has already got hundreds of classical Chinese and foreign dramas on show. Music dramas and dance are sometimes performed here.
Today's the Dramatic Arts Center gathers the most brilliant playwrights, directors, producers and actors in China. The three major theaters, including the big Arts Theater, middle-sized Studio D6 and the small but exquisite Drama Salon are well-equipped to guarantee high quality performance.
