To travel in North Korea, you don’t have any chance to take the domestic trains, the only way to experience rail travel in this hermit kingdom is to take cross-border trains to Pyongyang. Although there are two international railway lines, for foreign travelers, the China (Beijing and Dandong) to Pyongyang line is the only choice. Normally, the crossing of Moscow - Pyongyang is used only by citizens of Russia and North Korea, and is not open to nationals of other countries.

The train from Beijing to Pyongyang is quite the same as sleeper trains in China, we stopped at Sinuiju for about 2 hours, there were guards get into the carriages, they checked our passport, visa and other documents, and deal with the immigration procedures. It was an memorable travel experience.

In year 2019, I took train from Beijing to Dandong, then meet our tour guide and connect another train from Dandong to Pyongyang. I was so excited when the train crossing the bridge then entered North Korea. It only took 1 hour from Dandong to Sinuiju.
