Published: May. 09, 2014

After more than three years of renovation, Simatai Great Wall and the newly constructed Beijing Wtown (Gubei Water Town) underneath the wall have opened to visitors since January, 2014. Visitors who only go to the Simatai Great Wall should make a reservation on the official website of Beijing Wtown at least one day in advance.

Being regarded as the most beautiful and precipitous section, Simatai Great Wall attracts many hiking enthusiasts from all over the world. Since June, 2010, it was closed for renovation. After more than three years, it welcomes visitors along with a newly built Gubei Water Town, Beijing Wtown. Part of the road to the great wall is still not completed, and visitors have to walk through the town to reach the wall. In consideration of your safety, those who only go to the wall should make a reservation in advance and lead by staff to the foot of the wall.

The reservation can be made on the official website of the town, but only Chinese version is available currently. Visitors can reserve tickets to the wall 1 – 10 days in advance with their real name, Chinese ID or foreign passport number, and a Chinese mobile phone number. After you make the payment online successfully, you will receive a text message containing an e-ticket in the form of QR code. There will also be the validity of e-ticket in the text message. Visitors enter the attraction by showing the QR code ticket and take the free shuttle to the foot of the great Wall. Only two groups of visitors are allowed to enter the wall each day, at 10:00 and 14:00, respectively, so you should decide at what time you are going there when you make the online reservation. Visitors go to both the town and the great wall will not pass the construction site, so no reservation is required.

Hi Steve, I'm afraid you can't. After you make the reservation, you will receive a Verification code message on your phone, so that you can show it the the staff of the senic area. If you use a foreign number, I wonder whether you can receive this message.

Thanks for this great information on Simatai. I'd love to go there! However I'm having great difficulty finding the Gubei WTown website to make reservations. Any chance you can provide a link to that site?
