Xi'an City Wall is the oldest and best preserved ancient city wall in the world. It was built to resist and defend against enemy. There are a series of ancient military facilities on the Xi’an City Wall, such as drawbridge, gate towers, arrow towers, main towers, watch towers and turrets. These military facilities and the city wall constitute a complete defense system, of crucial importance for the city in ancient times.
South Gate is the most complete and time-honored city gate in Xi’an. The underground passage there allows visitors to enter the city gate and get on the City Wall with tickets.
You can rent a bicycle near the East Gate (Changle Gate), South Gate (Yongning Gate), West Gate (Anding Gate) or North Gate (Anyuan Gate) and enjoy a ride on the City Wall. Taking a sightseeing battery car on the City Wall is also a pleasant experience.
