Yu Garden is a famous ancient private garden that was built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) with a history of more than 450 years. It was built by an officer for his old father to spend the old age. Thus you can hear the conception of filial piety is repeatedly mentioned there.
Book the tickets and you will be addicted to the beautiful scenery. The pavilions are scattered, the rockeries are grotesque, the trees are green and the lake is clear. It is like a small forest in city.
You can also appreciate the brick carvings, stone carvings, wood carvings, clay sculptures and other artworks there.
You can enjoy delicious local snacks outside Yu Garden for it is next to the Old City God Temple and there are many snack stalls.

Thank you!
I wanted to know, because i've seen videos and news about it, if yuyuan garden opens at night during the Lunar new year celebrations, specifically for the lantern festival at the end of the festivities.
I don't quite understand if it's publicly open, of i should buy tickets, and wether or not it is a special ticket which can be booked online, or should i go to the ticket counter that date.
I will be in Shanghai February 2024.
Up to now, there is no any news about stop of visiting. It should open as normal on Dec 31. The entrance ticket price is CNY40 per person.
The date was extended to Nov 16 now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
