Nanning Weather in February

Season: Transition from Winter to Spring
Nanning’s weather in February is featured with frequent temperature fluctuations. It’s quite warm during sunny periods, but damp and chilly in gray weather, and the humid air makes it much more unbearable. Therefore, visitors are advised to pack both thin and thick clothes. February is a dry season and drizzles rarely affect outdoor plans. Except the Chinese New Year Holiday period, February is a shoulder travel season.

Overall Rising Temperatures, but Variable

In February, Nanning’s climate becomes warm gradually, with traces of spring and lively green landscapes while most northern cities in China are still shivering in the cold, with a bleak atmosphere.

Since February marks the transition between winter and spring, the temperature fluctuations occur frequently, with sudden drops or rises every three to five days. On sunny days, its daytime highs range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius (73-79 degrees Fahrenheit), with the highest temperature even reaching nearly 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). On cloudy or rainy days, daytime highs range from 16-21 degrees Celsius (61-70 degrees Fahrenheit); combined with the humid air, it gives damp and chilly feelings. If a strong cold front occurs, the daytime highs may drop as low as 7-9 degrees Celsius (45-48 degrees Fahrenheit). Accompanied by rain and strong winds, this biting cold becomes even more unbearable. Therefore, visitors should check the weather forecast regularly. If they plan a long stay in Nanning, it’s advisable to pack a full range of clothing, from light to heavy.

Nighttime low temperatures generally hover between 11 and 17°C (52-63°F), so a light jacket is usually sufficient. However, when cold wind blows, the city may experience nighttime lows of 5-8°C (41-46°F), requiring thicker clothes.

Limited Rainfall

February sees limited rainfall, with an average precipitation of 46 mm over 8 rainy days. The rain is usually in the form of showers, drizzles or moderate rain, seldom in heavy downpours. It’s worth noting that warm air masses may bring occasional thunderstorms, but it lasts very short time, so outdoor sightseeing is not greatly influenced, though the scenery may be a bit less beautiful.

Pretty Humid Air and Frequent Foggy Weather

Nanning in February experiences a pretty high humidity level, about 80%. This is because there are active cold and warm air masses. What’s more, temperature increase tends to make the air more humid, and even approach saturation, which is known as “Huinantian”, when water seeps on walls and floors, clothes don’t dry, and the ground becomes slippery.

In addition, foggy weather is frequent this month. At its worst, visibility in the early morning may be less than 200 meters, which not only greatly diminishes the scenery but also poses risks when going out. On foggy days, it’s more advised to visit indoor attractions, such as Nanning Museums, in the morning. It’s better to wait until noon, when the fog has cleared, before exploring outdoor scenic spots.

Sunshine Hours and Daylight Hours

Sunrise Time: 7:08-7:25
Sunset Time: 18:34-18:49

Although there isn’t much rain in February, overcast and foggy days are quite frequent. As a result, February in Nanning has the shortest average daily sunshine duration of the year, only 4 hours. Therefore, the chances of seeing a beautiful sunset are relatively low. If visibility is high in the afternoon and it’s a sunny day, you can try your luck and take a stroll along the banks of the Yong River. Also, if your skin is sensitive to UV rays, it’s best to apply sunscreen, as the UV index can reach as high as 9 on sunny days.

Entering February, Nanning experiences increasing daytime length, about 11-11.5 hours per day, so you can follow a relaxed travel pace.

What to Wear to Visit Nanning in February 2027

Nanning February Clothes
Due to the changeable climate in February, we highly recommend visitors prepare clothes in different thicknesses.

 Sunny Weather:
A long-sleeved shirt, a light jacket, and a pair of jeans;
or long dress, a light coat, and a pair of stockings.

 Rainy or Overcast Weather:
A hoodie or a sweater and a windbreaker coupled with a pair of fleece-lined jeans.
If a significant temperature drop is predicted, don’t forget to pack a down coat to stay warm. A 3-in-1 windbreaker is also a practical choice.

 Footwear:
Considering the often wet ground influenced by the humid air, visitors are advised to wear non-slip sneakers.

A special tip: It’s best to pack extra inner layers and underwear, as clothes are hard to dry out.

 Accessories:
1. Occasional rain makes it necessary to pack a folding umbrella.
2. It’s optional to pack sun-protective items: sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat.

Travel Recommendations and Tips

1. Overall, February can be considered a shoulder travel season, as the weather isn’t very pleasant. However, February includes the local most important and longest holiday - Chinese New Year holiday, from February 5 to February 13, 2027. It’s no doubt that this period can be extremely busy, hotel rates roar dramatically, and high-speed train tickets are hard to buy. Therefore, if you have plans, try to book tickets at least one month earlier. The rest of the month is relatively calm and budget-friendly.

2. If you are interested in the strong festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year, Nanning is a suitable place to feel it. There is lantern festival at Mount Qingxiu, temple fair at Three Streets and Two Alleys and various folk shows.
