Overall, Nanning’s weather in March can be described as warm and humid, but temperatures are quite changeable due to the switch of cold and warm air masses. Day-night temperature difference is also a bit big, which makes a light jacket necessary when dark falls. March belongs to the dry season, with limited rainfall. But the air is saturated with moisture, making people feel quite uncomfortable, which is the only disadvantage of a Nanning March tour. Despite of this, March is an off-peak season; coupled with colorful blossoms and generally warm temperature, it is a suitable month to visit Nanning. 

Warm and Variable

Nanning’s climate in March is generally warm, showing the arrival of spring. However, as cold fronts and warm fronts sweep frequently, temperatures go up and down like a roller coaster. When the warm air masses dominate, the daytime highs range from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75-82 degrees Fahrenheit), with the highest temperature peaking 32 degrees Celsius, offering a moment of summer. When the cold front sweeps, temperatures drop dramatically, with daytime highs of 14-19 degrees Celsius (57-66 degrees Fahrenheit), even to 11 degrees Celsius (52 degrees Fahrenheit). What’s more, the cold feeling is intensified by the humid air. 

In addition, the temperature can change dramatically within a day, and the day-night temperature difference can even exceed 10°C (18°F). The nighttime lows generally hover between 10°C and 20°C (50-68°F).

Overall, the total rainfall is not large in March, with an average precipitation of 50 mm over 8 rainy days. The rain is mainly in the form of showers and moderate rain, and lasts not very long, so it has limited impact on outdoor travel plans. However, be aware of the UV rays, with the maximum UV index of 11. Even though it’s rainy or cloudy, the sun-protective measures are still necessary. 

As the rainfall is limited and overcast hours are not very long, Nanning enjoys plentiful of sunshine hours, 6 hours per day on average. Benefiting from that, March is a suitable month to watch a wonderful sunset view. One of the recommended spots is the observation platform of Guanyin Buddhism Temple at Qingxiu Mountain, with a broad horizon. If you want to watch it in the city center, it’s advisable to go to the river bank along Yong River, where you can also enjoy how the sky turns color.

Given that Nanning’s climate is quite humid, visitors should pack extra T-shirts and try to pick ones in quick-dry materials. But early mornings can be a bit cool, so it’s necessary to pack a light jacket. Plus, it can protect the skin from UV index. If a temperature drop is on the way, a hoodie or a jacket is a suitable outfit. 

 Bottom Clothing: It’s advisable to wear loose jeans or casual pants. Girls are advised to wear long dresses so as to take impressive photos. 

 Footwear: Non-slip sneakers are highly recommended as the humid air would make the road quite wet and slippery. 

 Accessories: 
Rainfall is possible, so it’s wise to pack an umbrella. 
Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.

1. Due to warmer temperatures in March, Nanning is full of blossoms, which can be seen not only on the street, but also in different scenic spots. One of the most popular spots is Mount Qingxiu. Early March is the peak time to watch tabebuia chrysantha. Fenglinggu at Mount Qingxiu boasts over 7,000 trees and attracts lots of visitors. Mid-March is suitable to catch cherry blossoms in Yinghuawu of Mount Qingxiu, with 6,000 blossoms and various types. If you want to avoid crowds, Shimen Forest Park is also recommended: similar cherry blossoms, but fewer tourists. 
Special tips for blossom viewing: 
(1) The best window to snap photos is 9:30-11:30 or 16:00-18:00, when the sunlight is soft and gentle. 
(2) Due to temperature fluctuations, the exact blossom period can be different each year, so it’s best to check the exact date before visiting. 

2. March is a good month to visit Nanning. In terms of weather, the temperature is warm overall, and the rain is acceptable. The only challenge is the humid air, which requires you to prepare well and pick sunny periods to visit. As for tourist numbers, March can be considered a shoulder travel season, without public holidays. Therefore, you can have a peaceful and budget-friendly trip. But popular spots like Mount Qingxiu can be still a bit crowded on weekends, so it’s best to avoid weekends.
