Changsha metro line 3 covers a total length of 53.79 kilometers (33.4 miles). With 33 stations along the way, it runs from northeast to southwest, connecting 4 districts in Changsha and extending southward to Xiangtan City. Through metro line 3, passengers are able to conduct a cross-city tour at a low cost with little effort; for example, it only takes CNY 7 from Changsha Railway Station in the center of Changsha to Xiangtan North Railway Station, the end in Xiangtan.

Unlike hot metro line 1 and line 2, metro line 3 in Changsha doesn’t focus on the areas with the highest foot traffic but leads to many quiet spots worth going, serving as a good choice for tourists planning an in-depth Changsha tour. Both natural attractions like Yanghu Wetland, Yuehu Lake, and Songya Lake, and cultural destinations including Dawangshan Tourist Resort, Li Zijian Art Museum, Changsha University, and Dongguashan Night Market are distributed along this metro line. 

The entire trip takes around 86 minutes, with ticket prices ranging from CNY 2 to CNY 9.

 Tips:
1. Passengers heading to Xiangtan by metro line 3 in the evening are advised to confirm its destination twice, as some trains stop at Hongqiao Station rather than the furthest Xiangtan North.
2. The last train from Xiangtan North Station to Changsha departs around 22:00, one hour earlier than the last departure running in Changsha city. So, it is recommended to plan your return time properly.

 Different from metro line 3, which only leads to the north edge of Xiangtan, this rail line connects the core urban attractions and transportation hubs of Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan directly.

Changsha - Zhuzhou - Xiangtan intercity railway, centered around Changsha Railway Station, extends north to Lugu Station in Changsha downtown via Kaifu Temple, Guanshaling, Bafangshan, Gushan, Jianshan, and branches south through Muyun Station, leading to Xiangtan Railway Station and Zhuzhou South Railway Station respectively. A single journey between Changsha and both Zhuzhou and Xiangtan takes around 1 hour.

Passengers follow the same procedures as taking a bullet train in China to take the intercity train:
 1. Buy a ticket online through TravelChinaGuide: select the departure date, boarding station, and destination; those numbered with “S” belong to intercity trains. On-site purchasing at the ticket window is also feasible. You will get a voucher with a carriage number and train number without a specific seat. 
 2. Arrive at the station 15 minutes prior to departure. Most stations are independent buildings like railway stations, while some share the site with a metro station with the same name, like Kaifu Temple station, meaning that you need to enter via the entrance to the subway station. 
 3. Go through an easy security check.
 4. Wait for check-in. The check-in gate usually opens 6 minutes ahead of schedule and closes 3 minutes before departure.
 5. Get to the waiting gate for your carriage after scanning your passport. At stations similar to a metro station, on both sides of the platform are trains running in two directions, so be careful not to get on the wrong one. Seats are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

 Tip:
Metro line 3 passengers planning to take the intercity train are advised to make a 5-minute transfer to line 2 at Changsha Railway Station, and get off at Jintai Square station, which is closer to the waiting room of the intercity railway. Otherwise, you need to walk for an additional 15 minutes from Changsha Railway Station to Changsha Intercity Railway Station, 2 separate buildings that are 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) apart.
