In short: cozy temperature overall; low precipitation and humidity

In low-altitude areas, except for a few days - mostly concentrated at the beginning of the month -when daily highs exceed 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), the high temperature in most days is around 25-30°C (77-86°F). Therefore, you won’t feel very hot. Nighttime temperature will make you feel distinctly cool. In high-altitude areas, most days are cool, with the temperature hovering around 20-25°C (68-77°F). However, the temperature trends downward this month, so by the end of the month, daytime highs may drop to 15-20°C (59-68°F). Nighttime temperature typically doesn’t exceed 10°C (50°F), and by month’s end, it may even fall below 5°C (41°F), making you feel quite cold.

Precipitation

When traveling to Kashgar in September, sunny days will dominate your journey, as rainfall is sparse though slight variations exist between low and high-altitude areas.

Precipitation is rare in the low-altitude areas. For example, according to the statistical data of the past three years, there is only one rainy day on average in Kashgar City in September. In the high-altitude Pamir Plateau region, such as Taxkorgan, precipitation is slightly more. Based on data from the past three years, the average number of days with precipitation here is around three this month. Note that snowfall is possible in these high-altitude mountainous areas.

The low precipitation level results in very low humidity this month, averaging 45%, so the air is dry.

Daylight Hours & Sunshine Hours

You can expect relatively long days in September: the daylight hours are about 13 at the beginning of the month, and gradually decrease to around 12 by the end, because the sunrise delays from 08:24 to 08:51 but sunset advances from 21:27 to 20:40, respectively, during the month.

The sunshine hours are about 9 per day on average, meaning you will enjoy abundant sunshine during your stay there. The UV index is relatively high at 7, so it is necessary to take enough sun protection measures when going out, especially when going to the Pamir Plateau.

What to Bring for Kashgar Trip in September

Kashgar September Clothes

Clothes for low-altitude areas: In most days, summer clothes like T-shirts plus thin trousers are suitable for the daytime. Besides, you are highly recommended to put on a thin shirt or a sun-protection jacket, which can not only block the strong UV rays, but also keep you warm on occasional cool moments. Then, as the temperature gradually decreases at night, you need to wear long-sleeved shirts and sweatpants plus thin jackets, which are also recommended outfits for the daytime of late September.

Clothes for high-altitude areas: Long-sleeved T-shirts are recommended to bring as the inner layer. Then, for the outer layer, there-in-one jackets that involve a fleece inner layer are quite necessary, which enable you to adjust the thickness you wear conveniently according to the apparent temperature. In terms of the bottom, you can prepare thick sweatpants and long johns. If you plan to go out at early morning and late evening, also bring a down coat, especially if your trip is scheduled in late month.

Shoes: Walking shoes and sneakers are recommended to pack. Since the night in high-altitude areas is a bit cold, you are also advised to prepare several pairs of thick socks.

 Other necessities:
1. Sun protection items like sunglasses, sunhats, and sun protector lotion are still of great importance.
2. The climate of Kashgar in September is quite dry, so you are recommended to bring lip balm, hand cream, and moisturizing skincare products. Additionally, pack a portable water bottle and drink water frequently.
