On average, Kashgar sees a low precipitation of about 5 mm in 3 rainy or snowy days in February. But does that mean your itinerary won’t be affected by rain or snow? It actually depends on your specific destinations.
If your destinations are counties or cities in low-altitude areas, like Shache or Kashgar City, your itinerary will likely remain unaffected by precipitation. Generally, these places experience only several snow or sleet showers this month, and they are usually light. In February 2025, Kashgar City didn’t even see any precipitation at all. However, if your itinerary includes high-altitude areas like the Pamir Plateau, you face a higher chance of encountering snowfall: for instance, Tashkurgan recorded seven snowy days in 2025; additionally, these regions have chances to experience heavy snow that may lead to the closure of scenic areas and roads.
The humidity is 55% on average, indicating that the air is dry this month.
You can expect about 11 hours of daylight in February in Kashgar, from about 09:30-10:03 to 20:16-20:47. This period is relatively short, and in February, the temperature is low in early morning and late afternoon, so the time relatively comfortable for visiting is limited.

For most people, Kashgar in February is less attractive, since it has low temperature, withered vegetation, potentially closed scenic areas and roads, and some still closed shops within attractions.
Yet for some, Kashgar in February holds unexpected delights. First, it’s one of the least crowded times of the year, promising an exceptionally tranquil experience and giving you a chance to witness the authentic daily life of locals. Airfare and hotel rates also hit their lowest point. However, if you encounter the Chinese New Year during your visit in February, you will find that the situation is quite different: From February 16th to 23rd in 2026, Chinese people will enjoy a holiday break to celebrate the Chinese New Year, leading to larger tourist numbers and higher hotel prices. But this also means that, during your trip, you can enjoy a vibrant festive atmosphere in places like Kashgar Old Town. Second, while the vibrant greenery is absent, winter landscapes like snow-capped mountains and frozen lakes offer equally captivating beauty.
Clothes for most low-altitude areas: For the first half of the month, layer up to protect yourself from the cold weather of Kashgar. For your upper body, a thermal shirt, a fleece jacket, and a down coat are needed. For lower body, you are recommended to wear thermal pants and thick pants. As temperature rises, in late month, you can wear a wool sweater paired with a windproof three-in-one jacket, and take off the thermal pants.
Clothes for high-altitude areas like the Pamir Plateau: For the first half of the month, you need four layers for the upper to keep warm: choose a thermal shirt as your base layer, a sweater or fleece-lined long-sleeve T-shirt as your second layer, a warm jacket as your third layer, and a down coat as the final layer. For the lower body, opt for windproof winter pants and don’t forget to wear thermal pants underneath. As for the latter half of the month, you can remove either the second or third layer mentioned above for the upper body, and change the thermal pants into long johns.
Shoes: Comfortable, thick, and non-slip sneakers and walking boots are both OK.
Others: Scarves, hats, and gloves are useful to keep warm, especially in high-altitude areas. Kashgar climate is dry in February, so bring moisturizers.
1. If you wish to gain rich experience while avoiding going out during the cold hours, you are advised to visit outdoor attractions during daylight hours when the sun is shining. Then, in the cold evenings, head to indoor venues like teahouses to immerse yourself in local life or savor local specialties.
2. If you plan to travel to the Pamir Plateau, be sure to confirm road conditions in advance. Adjust your itinerary promptly if heavy snow falls to avoid wasting time due to road closures.
