Day 1 Paris to Kunming by Plane
Yunnan, with rich culture and natural wonders, is becoming one of the most popular destinations for tourists travelling to China. As the southwest frontier of China, it borders on Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, attracting a lot of French tourists to travel overland to Vietnam. There are no direct flights from Paris to Kunming of Yunnan, so you need to change planes in Guangzhou, Beijing, or Bangkok. The followings are some flight information that may help you.

You can take China Southern Airlines CZ348 (12:10/05:50+1) from Paris to Guangzhou, wait for 2 hours and transfer to CZ3409 (08:10/10:40) to Kunming. Or, take Air China CA876 (12:30/04:45+1) from Paris to Beijing, and transfer to CA1403 (06:40/10:25) to Kunming. If you live in Lyon, Marseille, Nice, or other cities of France, you need to first get to Charles de Gaulle Airport of Paris and then take a flight to Kunming.

Best Time for Visiting Yunnan & Hanoi
Kunming and Jianshui have mild climate throughout the year, favorable for visiting all year around. The best season to go to Yuanyang in Yunnan and Ha Long Bay near Hanoi is from October to April, during which you could enjoy the most magnificent sceneries of the rice terraces and limestone islands of the year.
Day 2 Arrive in Kunming
After you arrive at Kunming Airport, please make your own way to the hotel. We recommend the 3-star Holiday Inn Express Kunming West. From the airport, you can take Subway Line 6 to East Bus Station, transfer to Line 3, and get off at Liangjiahe Station (Exit A), from which you can walk westward to get to the hotel in 10 minutes. The fare is CNY 7 (USD 1) and it takes about one hour. A taxi costs about CNY 100 (USD 14).

After check-in, you can have a good rest in the hotel and get ready for the coming China holiday tour. Or, if you can’t wait to feel the charm of Kunming, you may take bus No.104 to Grand View Park, also known as Daguan Park, which is named after one of China’s four most famous pavilions - Daguan Pavilion built in 1690 AD. Walking among these massive stones, you may feel like stepping into another world. Besides stones, you could find other karst formations like the Long Lake and Zhiyun Cave with stalagmites and stalactites. After lunch, take a bus to return to the downtown.

Day 10 Hanoi Sightseeing: Hoan Kiem Lake, Old Quarter, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum & One Pillar Pagoda
Upon arrival in Hanoi this morning, you need to find a way to your hotel. Lotusama Hanoi Hotel is highly recommended. You can take a taxi at a cost of about USD 1 for about 10 minutes to get there. After having a break at the hotel, you may start your Hanoi exploration from Hoan Kiem Lake, which is one kilometer away from the hotel. It is renowned not only for its emerald green water, but also for the rich history behind it. Its name literally means “the lake where a sword is returned.” Legend has it that in the 15th century AD, Vietnam’s national hero and King, Le Loi (1385-1433 AD), got a sword in the lake one day. The sword was considered holy and then used to defeat the enemy in a battle. Later, the King returned it to the lake’s golden turtle. The lakeside is lively from morning till night, bustling with tourists admiring the scenery and historic buildings, as well as locals doing exercise and strolling. You could then take a walk around the Old Quarter, which is north of Hoan Kiem Lake, to feel the sounds and flavors of Hanoi. The streets and alleyways here began to take shape as early as the 11th century AD, and the Old Quarter is now one of the busiest commercial districts in Hanoi. Both traditional Vietnamese and European-style buildings can be seen, giving the area an exotic and retro charm. Each street has a certain theme of selling different items like shoes, silverware, tea, etc., packed up with street vendors and motorcycles. Find yourself a cafe to have a sip of Vietnamese coffee, or try some local snacks like spring rolls and rice noodles.

Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) is one of Vietnam’s most revered revolutionary leaders and prominent politicians. After his death, the mausoleum was built for people to pay their respects. Near the mausoleum is the Presidential Palace, also Former Residence of Ho Chi Minh, which offers a glimpse into the life of this leader. Don’t miss the nearby One Pillar Pagoda, which was first built for a dream of the King in 1049 AD. Dedicated to the Guanyin Bodhisattva, the pagoda was built on a thick and round stone pillar with a diameter of 1.25 meters (4 ft.), resembling a blooming lotus flower.

Tip: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is closed at a certain time every year, so please check in advance if you want to visit. Besides, note that photographing and video recording are prohibited inside the mausoleum.
