Lanzhou usually sees cold weather in February while the temperature is gradually rising. 

In the first half of the month, the highest temperature is about 6 degrees Celsius (42.8 degrees Fahrenheit), and the lowest value is -8℃ (17.6℉). The large temperature difference is caused by strong heat loss after sunset; when a cold wave passes through, it may also drop by about 6 - 8℃ (10.8 - 14.4℉).

During the day: Wear a thermal shirt and a sweater as the inner layers, and a thin downcoat or padded jacket as the outer. On extremely sunny days, you can also adopt the match of a wool sweater and a wool coat, which is lighter. For the bottom, fleece jeans or long johns with thick sweatpants are good choices. For women who prefer winter dresses, be sure to wear fleece leggings. 

In the early morning and evening: Add a down vest. It’s also advisable to carry a hat and a scarf to keep your head, ears, neck, and face warm.

Shoes: Comfortable sneakers are the best choice for a long day trip. Alternatively, you can wear a pair of short boots. They also work well when walking on the muddy roads after the snow or rain.
