Lanzhou Weather in February

Lanzhou usually sees cold weather in February while the temperature is gradually rising. 

In the first half of the month, the highest temperature is about 6 degrees Celsius (42.8 degrees Fahrenheit), and the lowest value is -8℃ (17.6℉). The large temperature difference is caused by strong heat loss after sunset; when a cold wave passes through, it may also drop by about 6 - 8℃ (10.8 - 14.4℉). 

By the end of the month, the temperature reaches above 12℃ (53.6℉) in the daytime. However, the temperature difference within a day increases, the maximum of which can be as large as 18℃ (32.4℉).

It may see about 2 - 3 snowy days, and the rest will be sunny or partly cloudy. Sleet is the most common and doesn’t last for a long time. What’s more, it will not form snow cover in general.  Thanks to the sunny climate, Lanzhou gets 7 hours of sunshine in February every day on average, which is quite abundant. Daytime is not very long, starting from 7:36 – 8:05 and ending at 18:31 – 18:58, but it is enough for day trips.
 Tourists are likely to meet 3 - 4 very windy days this month, influenced by the cold waves. Meanwhile, short-term dust weather may appear. 
 During the day: Wear a thermal shirt and a sweater as the inner layers, and a thin downcoat or padded jacket as the outer. On extremely sunny days, you can also adopt the match of a wool sweater and a wool coat, which is lighter. For the bottom, fleece jeans or long johns with thick sweatpants are good choices. For women who prefer winter dresses, be sure to wear fleece leggings. 

In the early morning and evening: Add a down vest. It’s also advisable to carry a hat and a scarf to keep your head, ears, neck, and face warm.

Shoes: Comfortable sneakers are the best choice for a long day trip. Alternatively, you can wear a pair of short boots. They also work well when walking on the muddy roads after the snow or rain.

2. You are advised to reserve an airline or train ticket in advance. People return home to reunite with their families, creating the Spring Festival travel rush, when price for air tickets will increase, and train tickets will be in demand.
