Lanzhou Weather in June

Season: summer

Lanzhou welcomes relatively comfortable weather in June. It’s not that hot in the daytime, while in the evening, it gets cool. Rainfall sees an increase, but the total amount is still at a low level. Tourists can enjoy their trip to the full with the longest daylight of a year and abundant sunshine.

During the day, the temperature can be a little high, fluctuating between 23 - 32 degrees Celsius (73.4 - 89.6 degrees Fahrenheit), but thanks to breezes, you may not feel too hot, especially in the shadows. At night, it often decreases to 13 - 18℃ (55.4 - 64.4℉). The day-night temperature difference can reach 18℃ (32.4℉) sometimes. Under such climatic conditions, people often don’t need to use the air conditioning when sleeping at night in Lanzhou in June. 

What’s more, rainfall affects the temperature a lot. When high temperature days over 30℃ (86℉) last for about 5 days, a night shower is very likely to appear in time. Then, the high temperature usually drops to below 20℃ (68℉) and the low value to about 10℃ (50℉) the next day. You even need to cover yourself with a thick quilt at night.
 Lanzhou enters its rainy season in June, when the probability of rain increases. But on the whole, the rainfall is not high. About 9 days see some rain, with a total precipitation of 44 mm (1.73 in). 

The rainfall is mostly showers and light rain, in the afternoon and at night. They are not lingering, often stopping soon. Thunderstorms occasionally appear suddenly, whether it’s sunny or overcast, accompanied by heavy rain, high winds, and even hail.

The humidity is not high, 54% on average. For that reason, people won’t feel wet.

 Clothes: During the daytime, short-sleeve T-shirt and light pants are good matches. For women, long dresses are acceptable; people who dislike the heat can also pack shorts. But after sunset, be sure to put on a thin jacket, which is also useful on rainy days. Alternatively, wear sun protection clothing directly as the outer layer. If you’re worried about catching a cold, bring both. Besides, a windbreaker is needed when overlooking the night view in White Pagoda Park.

Shoes: A pair of casual shoes are enough. If you plan to take your kids to dig sand by the Yellow River, remember to bring them a pair of slippers.

Accessories: Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a sunhat can help reduce the impact of strong sunlight. It’s also recommended to carry a parasol to use under the sun or in the rain. 
 1. Coming to Lanzhou around June 15, 2026, you may encounter crowds spending their Dragon Boat Festival holiday. It would be better to avoid this period or make reservations early, including flight or train tickets, hotels, and hot attractions requiring an appointment.

2. The Yellow River water is usually yellow in June, but in some years with less precipitation, you may see a transparent green color, such as in 2025.

3. The river flows relatively slowly in June, so it’s a good time for those who don’t like thrills to experience the sheepskin rafting. Please note that it may stop service in thunderstorm weather for security reasons.

4. If you feel hot or want to escape from strong sunshine at noon, change to some indoor attractions such as Gansu Provincial Museum or take a break in cool shadows.

5. It won’t be dark until almost 9 pm, so you can arrange as many activities as possible during the daytime. If you don’t want to go back to the hotel too early, go to Zhongshan Bridge, Zhengning Road Night Market, Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street, etc. to experience wonderful nightlife. Walking along the Yellow River in the evening breeze can bring you a cozy feeling.
