Day 2 Beijing
Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, A la carte lunch, Temple of Heaven. (B+L)
Great Wall of China
Photo by our client Ms. Michelle Jariabka
Your private journey starts from the world's largest urban square, Tiananmen Square. It covers an area of 44 square kilometers, spanning 880 meters from north to south and 500 meters from east to west. The square, which could hold 1,000,000 people at the same time, is an assembling place for celebrations in the traditional Chinese festivals and important events. On the other hand, the square is well-know for travelers because it is just the entrance to the splendid Forbidden City. According to Chinese history, except for the officials and royal family relatives, the ordinary people were not allowed to enter this imperial palace. This is why it is called Forbidden City. It is also a palace museum fully demonstrating the imperial life in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

With a great variety of dishes for you to choose from, we believe the a la carte lunch (valued at CNY150.00 per person and included in our price) today will appease your appetite. Your afternoon visit continues to the Temple of Heaven, an ancient majestic royal altar.

Meals: Western buffet breakfast, A la carte lunch
Day 3 Beijing
Mutianyu Great Wall with a round-trip cable car, Olympic Bird's Nest. (B)
Our travel consultant Lydia with her clients
Today you will take an excursion to Mutianyu Great Wall. It was initially set up as a fortification to keep away from being intruded by the invaders. There are 23 watchtowers distributed at close intervals along the wall. The small holes on the wall were used to shoot arrows. It is a landmark witnessing the great intelligence and hardship of ancient Chinese people. In order to obtain more time to appreciate the best part of this great masterpiece, we have included the round trip cable car for you. Lunch is on your own arrangement.

On the way back to the city center, we will pass by the Bird's Nest, namely the Olympic National Stadium and stop over there for a few minutes. You can take some pictures of this significant building from a distance. The last stop is a featured local market where you are able to find various traditional souvenirs.

Meals: Western buffet breakfast
 Friendly Tips

This tour includes the round-way cable car fees at Mutianyu Great Wall. However, if you are interested in taking the chairlift up and toboggan down the wall, we can also arrange that for you.
Day 4 Beijing - Xian
Summer Palace with boat ride on Kunming Lake, Hutong visit. A high speed train to Xian. Railway station to hotel transfer. (B)
A nice riding experience on the ancient City Wall
After breakfast at the hotel, we will first transfer you to visit the Summer Palace, the most fantastic attraction of which is the Long Gallery. Being seven hundred twenty-eight meters (796.2 yards) long, the Long Gallery artfully links Longevity Hill with Kunming Lake. In 1990 it was rated as the longest gallery in the world. Constructed along the natural terrain of Longevity Hill and the turns of Kunming Lake, the gallery offers a picturesque view at each step. Admiring the intricate paintings while listening to the old stories can make visitors learn a lot about the five-thousand-year-old Chinese culture. If weather permits, we will arrange a relaxing boat trip on Kunming Lake for you. Then you will experience a Hutong tour by rickshaw. Different from visiting the sites, a visit to Hutong area offers you an opportunity to walk into the traditional alleys and get acquainted with the local people's life there.

Lunch is on your own arrangement. After that, you will take a high speed train to the next destination of your 11 days China tour package - Xian. Our local guide will meet you at the railway station and accompany you to the hotel.

Meals: Western buffet breakfast
Day 5 Xian
Terracotta Amy Museum, Provincial History Museum, City Wall. (B)
Terracotta warriors
You will start the day tour from the famed Terracotta Army. The discovery of Qin Terracotta Army is a miracle of the world. Located 1,640 yards to the east of the Mausoleum of the first Emperor Qin Shihuang, the pits of Qin Terracotta Army were built to bury along with the emperor. By far three pits have been discovered where unearthed about 7,000 terracotta warriors and a large amount of war horses, chariots and weapons. The figures of the terracotta warriors symbolize the household cavalry to guard the underground imperial city. Lunch is not included today.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum and ascend the City Wall. Unique historical and culture heritage of Shaanxi is undoubted worth the praise as treasure house of Chinese civilization, and Shaanxi History Museum is definitely a palace of art to display Shaanxi's history and culture and ancient civilization. There are as many as 370,000 antiquities collected in the 11,000-square-meter exhibition halls and 8,000-square-meters storage, ranging from prehistorical relics to that of the 1840s. Time spans more than one million years and the collection is superior in value, quantity, rank and species.

Meals: Western buffet breakfast

Late in the afternoon, there will be a ceremonious Captain's Welcome Party waiting for your participation, and then enjoy a banquet dinner.

Meals: Western buffet breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 8 Badong - Xiling Gorge
Yangtze River cruise trip. (B+L+D)
Shennong Stream excursion
The most essential part of your ship ride comes today. The ship will first sail through the short but grandiose Qutang Gorge and then the most brilliant Wu Gorge. In Wu Gorge, you will disembark at Wushan Daning River for an excursion to Shennong Stream. When you visit the verdant Shennong Stream, you will first take an electric boat for about 40 minutes. The scenery along the both tributaries is more comely and delicate compared with the splendid Three Gorges. The current of these sections becomes gentle and the water becomes clearer gradually. After that you will take a little pea-boat with some other guests (about 10 guests or more sharing a boat), rowed by local boatmen. The local guide, dressed in clothes of Tujia minority, may sing melodious folk songs with the boatmen for you along the way. It is advisable to follow the guide's instruction to wear your life jacket properly even though the stream seems not to be dangerous at all. It is a scenic joy to roam among the green mountains and blue waters. Get back to the ship and the cruise continues sailing into the western section of Xiling Gorge. Historically known for its tortuous channel, dense reefs and shoaly waters, Xiling Gorge is the longest and most dangerous gorge of the Yangtze River. After decades of improvements and the accomplishment of Gezhouba Water Conservancy Project, the river now flows more gently while the splendid landscape remains the same.

Meals: Western buffet breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

It boasts 40 scenic spots, such as Grand Rockery, Ancient Theater, Nine Dragons Pool, Nine Zigzag Bridge, Lotus Pool, Sanhui Hall and Dianchun Hall.

After enjoying an a la carte lunch (valued at CNY150.00 per person and included in our price) with the best Shanghai cuisine, you will visit the Bund and take a cruise on Huangpu River, which symbolizes and epitomizes the image of the city. I would be happy to provide feedback. The meal we had in Beijing was excellent - very unique, very delicious, very China. The restaurant was very classy and stylish. I would recommend it to all. Our guide in Chongqing was OUTSTANDING. Very conscientious, took great care of us, spoke perfect English. We tried to tip her but she refused!!!!! And all of our guides spoke perfect English. Our driver from Chongqing airport to the boat was very nice, very professional. Same for the car - very clean, very nice. Unfortunately though he smoked and the car smelled like cigarettes. He did not smoke while driving us though - only during the bathroom stops. I would recommend this travel company to anyone. They responded to all of my emails in a very timely and professional manner, and helped arrange a trip my husband and I will never forget. Traveling in a foreign country like China where neither myself nor my husband speak or read the language can be very unsettling. the local guides were always waiting for us at each of our travel destinations, they took us to local restaurants and where time, local sites. They were always professional and courteous, and spoke perfect English. I would like to thank TCG for the truly amazing quality of service we received. Thank you Travel China Guide! ... More

--- It was excellent in every way of your organization. The flights and connections worked smoothly. We loved it.

--- Service on the ship was excellent. We had wonderful rooms, excellent meals, delightful shore excursions, and excellent service. The cruise staff spoke English well.

--- A couple of small items that may or may not be beyond your control:

    1. We would have liked to know our flight numbers and times (from Xi’an to Chongqing and from Yichang to Shanghai) further in advance. You sent us an email while we were already in Xi’an, where it was not easy to check email.
    2. In Chongqing, we were met by your very nice guide, who showed us around the city and then took us to the ship. When our van arrived at the loading dock, we were "mobbed" by porters who wanted to carry our bags. They started loading up our bags before we had sorted which bags belonged to which people, and they did not listen when we said that we wanted to carry certain bags ourselves. We felt as if we were under attack.

The portion of our Yangtze trip that was arranged by this agency was most rewarding and free of stress or problems. Everything ran like a new clock. The guides were always there to meet us; their English was excellent; they did their best to accomodate us in every way. The cars were clean and of the necessary size for all the luggage, and the meals were excellent also. Keep on the good work.

Mrs. Hughes and I have returned home to the states. We want to thank you for your excellent service and the delightful guides that met us at all points. The President 7 Cruise was wonderful and we were quite surprised to have a guide met us in Yichang and take us safely to that Airport. When next we have an opportunity to visit Asia you can be sure we will contact you again.

Overall we are very satisfied with the quality of your services. That is not only my opinion but of ALL THE MEMBERS of our group. Out of a maximum of 100, I would grade the overall quality of your services at 85. They are OBSERVATIONS and SUGGESTIONS to improve even further. I am 72 years old. I have traveled a lot all over the world and maybe I am more demanding than your average client. Although I am of Asian origin, I lived most of my life in Europe and the USA. In Beijing I chose the Mutianyu section to visit the Great Wall. We liked it very much over there. We especially liked the Hutong rickshaw tour. We also enjoyed the visit of a Hutong home. In Xi'an I took an extra day and I am glad I did. There is much to see in Xi'an. We all very much liked the home-cooking visit. We also liked our visit of the city wall. We planned to bike around the wall. We found out biking the wall is very popular. IT IS ADVISABLE TO RESERVE A BIKE. I arranged for one day extra in Chongqing I am glad I did. I think CHONGQING IS A VERY INTERESTING CITY. Our flight from Xi'an was delayed for a couple of hours, normally we would be transferred to the cruise ship the same afternoon, and we would have missed Chongqing entirely. The program in Chongqing which we made together proved to be very attractive. The Pandas were lovely but our whole group LOVED the Ciqikou village. You wrote to us the hygienic standards of the restaurants in the village were below standard but Johnny found a nice authentic local restaurant just at the border of the village. We are of Asian origin and found this restaurant quite satisfactory. My eldest son loves hot food and was very happy with the restaurant. The CRUISE was all we expected from it. In Yichang we spent only a short time. Sally, our guide, was very good. I described our arrival in Shanghai earlier. We enjoyed the Shanghai museum but only wished we could spend some more time there. For the rest we enjoyed our time in Shanghai very much. We were glad we could spend on day longer. We certainly are willing to recommend you. Thank you. ... More

    Dear Emily:

The tour was exceptional from beginning to end. Your very professional handling of questions or requests was always done expeditiously - you were in constant communication with me. We were hoping to meet you in person to thank you for your wonderful service.
At any rate, my siblings and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Two of them have been to China more than once but thought the tour excellent. They learned a lot and saw new things as pointed out by your outstanding guides, Becky in Beijing, Tracy in Xian, Cherry in Chongqing and Jennifer in Yichang. They were flexible and accommodating and the pace was good for us old folks. (age range of 68 - 76) The excursion guides were also very interesting. We were pleased at climbing the Great Wall - wonderful experience. Also, our guide, William in Shanghai, helped us with several issues: retrieving a cell phone that had been left on the boat after our cruise on the Huangpu river, resolving a hotel charge for a tv program we did not order, and making sure our check in details for our flight were in order. And Sam, in Guilin, came up to our rooms to make sure everything was all right and gave us real insight to beautiful Guilin with his narratives on the Li River cruise. We didn’t have to worry about checking in or transportation to and from destinations. In addition, the drivers were all very skilled at getting through traffic. All our hotel accommodations were very good also.

Some recommendations we think will enhance your tours are: having simple printed handouts with facts and figures about each place ( we were given a lot of information by the guides but certainly can’t retain it all); provide maps of the rivers traversed ( we mentioned this to the cruise line); lists of suggested restaurants in the hotel areas; actual departure and arrival dates and times for travel by air, train and boat.

We would recommend your tour company highly - good job! 5 Stars!!!

Thank you Emily for helping make this an unforgettable experience.

Excellent trip. Taken care of from the moment we got to China. The guides were all very prompt and got us to the designated tours with the ability to be a little flexible. The recommended restaurants they took us to were very good. The rooms at Xi'an and Shanghai were fabulous, they were huge and had awesome views. Our consultant, Wendy, was very patient with all of our questions. The Yangtze cruise was so-so but the excursions were probably the best of the tour. Everything was delivered as promised. ... More

Thanks Cindy. It was so nice of you to come out to meet us while we were in Xi'an. We were very impressed by such personal attention, and very pleased to meet you.

This company did everything they could to make my trip comfortable and happy. All the restaurants chosen by them offered excellent food and really nice surroundings. I really appreciated this. The Hotels were all good except for the room on the cruise ship. I probably have spelt it wrong, however that was not their fault as the weather and the boat people were the problem. The only comment I would make is not to use the President Ship. It is old and there is no lifts, stairs to climb. Any of the more modern ships would be better. ... More
