What to Wear in Nara in November

In the first half of November, a long-sleeve T-shirt or hoodie plus a trench coat is enough to cope with the climate in Nara. But to late November or if you are going out at night, thicker clothes are needed; shirt can be replaced by a thin sweater or topped with a wool cardigan or thick overcoat. Wool trousers, thicker sweatpants, and light boots are appropriate for decreasing temperature as well.

On November 3th, the celebration on the floating stage in Manyo Botanical Garden is wonderful to watch. The traditional music from Nara Age is played to eulogize Emperor Meiji, celebrate the cultural festival, and pray for peace and safety. Red autumn leaves can never be missed in Nara in November; Isui-en Garden, Yoshiki-en Garden, Manyo Botanical Garden and Mount Wakakusa are perfect to appreciate the Japanese fall beauty. Going a little north, coreopsis at Hannya-ji Temple is unexpected likewise. Persimmon-leaf sushi, or called Kaki-no-ha sushi, is a must-try as Nara’s specialty; the sushi is wrapped by persimmon leaves, and seafood inside is slightly salt-cured. There are some persimmon-leaf sushi shops in Nara; you may find some great ones on Sanjo Dori, near JR stations or Nara Park.
