In October in Nara, Shika-no-Tsunokiri – the ceremony of antler cutting is imposing. Technical personnel catch the male deer and cut their antlers under the guidance of Shinto priests, which is held at deer garden in Nara Park, near Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Mount Wakakusa is also visit-worthy with alluring autumn scenery, meanwhile it gives a panoramic view of Nara Park and even the whole Nara City on the top. Toshodai-ji Temple is also fascinating, where one can appreciate both wooden architecture and traditional yard. Koshi-no-le at Naramachi shows the old Japanese house with a store in the front, which sprang up since the 17th century. Naramachi, the district with Edo houses standing on the roadsides, has many other shops or cafés for visitors to experience slow-paced life.
 

Tips

Deer is regarded as the messenger of Kasuga God in Nara; the antlers of male deer exuviate naturally in early spring, and new antler grows since April. To October, the antlers become hard, and the antler cutting ceremony is held to avoid antlers injuring other deer, trees and human. It attracts many parents and children.
