November marks the beginning of winter in Datong, when the weather becomes increasingly cold.

 The daylight extends from 6:55 - 7:28 to 17:02 - 17:24, offering about 10 hours of travel time. If you want to explore this city fully during your visit in November 2025, try to make your itinerary as compact as possible. As mentioned above, the temperature drops significantly after sunset. 

Datong gets sufficient sunshine in November, with an average daily duration of 7 hours. The reason lies in that the weather is mainly cloudy and sunny, and continuous overcast or rainy days are rare.
 Strong heating system creates a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors, requiring you to adjust clothes in time according to your feelings. In other words, you need to layer up when going out and take off the outer layer when stepping into a restaurant or your hotel room.

 Inner layer: A bottoming shirt with a hoodie or thin knitwear is enough. At the same time, prepare long johns, particularly for people sensitive to temperature change.

 Outer layer: Pack a windproof outer layer for long-term outdoor activities: either a padded jacket or a down coat is OK. For the bottom, fleece jeans can be your choice.

 Shoes: High-top sneakers are advised, which not only prevent wind but also do not tire your feet.

 Necessities: 
1. Add a winter hat when you visit Hanging Monastery and Yungang Grottoes on the mountains.
2. Carry lipstick and moisturizing cream to cope with the dry air. If there is free space in your suitcase, pack a portable travel humidifier to use in the dry hotel room.

1. In the low travel season, you can visit all the attractions, including Huayan Monastery, Nine-Dragon Screen, Shanhua Temple, and Wooden Pagoda in Yingxian County, slowly and thoroughly. Meanwhile, some attractions like Yungang Grottoes start to introduce off-season ticket prices, meaning that you will spend less.

2. Be sure to wear as warm as possible if you plan to stay for a long time inside the caves at Yungang Grottoes, where there is no sunlight, and you feel even colder.

3. If you are sensitive to sound, ask the staff to arrange a room away from the heating pump when checking in, for fear that possible noise affects your sleep at night
