June is a transition period in Datong from spring to summer with an overall favorable weather. The temperature remains 22 - 29 degrees Celsius (71.6 - 84.2 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day. It’s a bit hot in the sun, but entering the buildings or walking in the shade of trees, you feel cool immediately. On high-altitude Yungang Grottoes and Mt. Hengshan, it’s even a little cold after sunset. Only 5 - 7 days have a high temperature above 30℃ (86℉), but blowing breezes can lower the perceived temperature, rarely making people feel scorching.
