Day 1 Arrival in Kunming, Airport pick-up and a short city tour
Welcome to Kunming, which enjoys the reputation of "Spring City" because of its spring-like climate all year around. According to your flight schedule, your guide and driver will wait for you outside the baggage claim area of Kunming Airport and then transfer you to check into the hotel.

After a short rest, your guide will accompany you to explore the Flowers & Birds Market, which is a top popular market in Kunming. Have a casual stroll along the street, and you can see shops and stalls of all sorts, especially those featuring flowers, birds and fish. Then you will be guided to visit the Jinma Biji Square in the city center area. There stands two ancient memorial archways, one called Jinma, which means Golden Horse, and the other Biji, which means Jade Rooster. They are the landmarks of this city. You can take pictures and walk around the nice surrounding area. You may also taste the famous Across Bridge Rice Noodles, namely Yunnan Guoqiao Mixian, at a nearby restaurant called Qiao Xiang Yuan.
Day 2 Visit the Stone Forest and the Golden Temple
Our clients visiting the Stone Forest
Today your Kunming city tour will continue to the Shilin Yi Autonomous County, where the renowned Stone Forest is located. After about two hours driving, we will reach this large site. The Stone Forest is a set of limestone formations, most in the shape of stalagmites, looking like a forest made of stones. You must be curious how those formations were made. Once upon a time, there was a vast sea here. After millions of years' accumulation and erosion, the limestone were shaped and uplifted until the water was drained. The magic Stone Forest is like a maze, but don't worry, your guide will navigate you through it.

After lunch, we will visit the Golden Temple, which is located on the top of Mingfeng Hill, about 5 miles from the downtown. As a Taoist temple, the Golden Temple is the largest copper temple in China. You will climb up on a series of winding stone steps, then pass through three heavenly gates and finally arrive at the Golden Temple. The hillside around the temple abounds with many sorts of trees and flowers, most of which are Camellias.

No, it takes about 2 hours from the railway station to the Dragon Gate by bus and you don't have enough time to visit it.

You have probably found out the real answer so far and it is positive. The only thing you should to is to count your hours from the first scheduled landing in China until your last scheduled departure from China. In case that the number of hours is less than 24, you are covered by 24 hours visa free transit. You are somewhere around 24 hours, but it seems that in the end it will be a bit less than 24 hours :).

What if my destination country has visa-on-arrival?
I've booked a hotel near the airport in Kunming for my 15 hour layover from USA to Laos. I will have my hotel reservation, my air ticket to Luang Prabang, my seat assignment, and a copy of the Laos/Cambodia Tour Plan sent by my tour guide. He has advised me to buy my visa upon arrival in Luang Prabang. Am I eligible for a 24 or 72 hour China visa?

With your layover that is exactly or around 15 hours, you are covered by 24 hours visa free transit. In case that you have planned a longer stay, that would be also fine for 144 hours visa free transit having my mind that you have US passport. Also, upon arrival, you will apply for entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. It is free. One more detail, please, keep in mind that you are not eligible for some kind of visa, but for visa free transit. This is very important to avoid any possible misunderstandings.
