The bamboo tube should be taken from new bamboo, and the length should be within 25 cm (10 in) with the diameter of about 6 cm (2.3 in). Cut a hole in an end of bamboo tube and fill fragrant glutinous rice and water in. You can also add minced meat, sausages, pickled vegetables and black beans. Don’t overfill it. The fragrant rice should be soaked for 12 hours in advance. Then seal it well and roast it on the fire for more than 20 minutes. Rotate it often while roasting to ensure that it would not catch fire. When the surface of bamboo tube is slightly brunt, the rice is well done. If it isn’t convenient to roast it at home, you can steam it for half an hour.
