Harbin Subway Line 3

Who should get off here: First-time visitors to Old Daowai, architecture lovers, foodies chasing time-honored brands, and photo hunters.

The station brings the "century-old commercial street" underground. LED screens at the concourse entrance play loops about Harbin's Longshang mercantile culture, and after the fare gates, famous old Daowai storefronts like New World Hotel are recreated as vintage shop fronts, with carved stone columns, ornate arches, and lantern-lit plaques setting the tone.

Step out Exit 1 and you're right at the southern grand archway; a few minutes' walk brings you into the core area:
 Chinese Baroque Historic Block – the largest and best-preserved cluster of Chinese Baroque architecture in China, with 76 century-old buildings, 12 traditional courtyards, and 3 historic hutongs.
 South Third Street – the main heritage street, with the Chinese Baroque archway, the Old Daowai Opera Stage, and the Fujiadian City History Museum.
 Time-honored food – classic desserts, steamed buns, clay-pot dishes, and more.

Who should get off here: Travelers interested in Islamic architecture, fans of authentic Halal cuisine, or those wanting to feel the lively street vibe.

The station pairs European-style lines with modern simplicity, adorned with colored stained glass, European moldings, and lily motifs on the walls, creating a solemn yet elegant space.

What's outside:
 Harbin Mosque (Exit 1) – the largest mosque in Northeast China and the only purely Arabian-style mosque in the country, dominated by blue, white, and green tones, with twin 165-foot (50.3 m) minarets rising skyward.
 Halal Food Street (Exit 2) – Ha Hui Qing Xiang Village, a century-old Halal brand, sells Northern-style Halal mooncakes, traditional bald bread, Russian-style bread, and old-fashioned walnut cookies fresh off the stove.
 Daowai Christian Church (Exit 1) – a short walk from the station.
 Who should get off here: After the bustling commercial streets and crowded photo spots, this is a quiet place to walk, sit, and watch local life unfold.

What's outside:
 Jingyu Park (Exit 2) – first built in 1917, this is an open, everyday citizens' park. Shaded by old trees and anchored by wide, flat lawns, it's the perfect place to rest on a bench, listen to rustling leaves, and watch elderly locals play chess or kick shuttlecocks. A genuine window into Harbin's neighborhood life.
 Who should get off here: Anyone traveling by high-speed rail between provinces or within Heilongjiang, and visitors arriving at Harbin West Railway Station who need to get to the city center.

This is the most European-style station on Line 3. The ceiling is treated with arches echoing the domes and arcades of Harbin's historic buildings, and the light boxes use colorful European-style carving patterns, along with curved European columns running through the platform and hall, all giving the whole space a grand, spacious feel. Right as you enter from the rail side, you face a 17.2 m (56.4 ft) long white-line panoramic mural in marble, Beautiful Ice City, depicting both banks of the Songhua River.

For high-speed rail travelers leaving from Harbin, once you tap out of the metro gates, a dedicated indoor passage leads directly into Harbin West Railway Station. The entire transfer is indoors, which means in Harbin's freezing winter, you never have to step outside, drag heavy luggage across a windy plaza, or deal with snow and ice. It saves time and energy. And if you're arriving by train instead, just follow the signs down to the Line 3 platform and you're on the loop to anywhere in the city.

What's outside:
 Harbin West Railway Station (East Square exit) – high-speed rail to Beijing, Changchun, Shenyang, Qiqihar, Dalian, and more. The East Square also has the metro entrance, a taxi stand on B2, and multiple bus stops.
 Harbin West Coach Terminal – long-distance buses to Taiping International Airport, Changchun, Jilin, Yabuli, Suihua, and other cities.
 Wanda Harbor Complex / China Resources Kaiyuan Plaza (East Square) – shopping, dining, and hotels all within walking distance.
 Bus hub (East Square) – routes 11, 31, 57, 96, 120, 124, 130, 236, 379, S11, Night Line 11, and more. The North Square adds routes 33, 37, 129, 140, and S12.
 Friendship Palace Station sits less than 500 m (1,640 ft) from Central Street and less than 200 m (656 ft) from the Songhua River bank. For travelers, it's both the easiest entry point to the riverside and the north end of Central Street, and the handiest metro stop for the accommodation area around Shangyou Street and Tongjiang Street.

What's outside:
 Stalin Park (Exit 2, about 200 m / 656 ft) – a 1,750 m (5,741 ft) long ribbon-shaped riverside park in Russian garden style. Walk east along the river and you'll hit the Flood Control Memorial, then further east to the Middle East Railway Park. Almost all of it is free, and you get river breeze, shade trees, Russian-style architecture, and sculptures all along the way.
 Central Street north entrance (Exit 2, 5–8 min walk south) – from the riverside, walk backwards into the century-old pedestrian street from its quieter north end.
 Songhua River Cable Car south station (Exit 1, about 50 m / 164 ft) – take the cable car across the Songhua River and land directly at Sun Island Scenic Area, or continue to Ice and Snow World in winter.

Where to stay nearby:
The area around Shangyou Street and Tongjiang Street, within a 3-minute walk of Friendship Palace Station, has a good range of accommodation choices. For example, the Home Inn there is about a 2-minute walk to Central Street, 5 minutes to Sophia Church, 3 minutes to the metro station, and 3 minutes to the Hongzhuan Street morning market. Staying in this area gives you easy access to sights, the metro, and a direct ride to Harbin West Railway Station for high-speed rail, all at a cheaper price than staying right on Central Street itself.
 Who should get off here: Business travelers coming to Harbin for international exhibitions, and visitors attending sports events or large performances.

 Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Center (Exit 3, about 7 min walk) – this venue hosts international trade fairs, sports competitions, and major performances. It has hosted events like the China-Russia Expo and the Asian Winter Games closing ceremony. The surrounding area is packed with exhibition halls, stadiums, and business hotels, fitting for anyone visiting Harbin for an expo, a match, or a big show.
