What to Wear in Chiang Mai in February

A short shirt plus a pair of shorts or light pants are enough for the daytime activities. As for the cooler mornings and nights or the trips to nearby mountains, one more piece of overcoat is needed. You’d better also pack sunhat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the strong ultraviolet rays.

Flower Festival is the most important festival in February in Chiangmai. It is usually celebrated in the first full weekend in February from Friday to Sunday, when lots of flowers are on display, many of which are made into various patterns. Visitors may go to Thapae Gate, the east gate of the old town and Nong Haad Buak Public Park to the northwest corner of the old town to appreciate them. In addition, activities like flower floats, and “Flower Fairy” beauty contest will be held. 

Coming to Chiang Mai, you must not miss visiting the temples and Wat Chedi Luang in the center of the old town is highly recommended. It is named after a square Lanna-Thai style pagoda inside. When visiting temples, well cover your shoulders and legs to meet the dress code there. 

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, when Chinatown in Chiang Mai hold interesting activities like lion dance show and lanterns show. It’s advisable to go there to have fun, too.
