Urumqi Metro

Currently, Urumqi metro line 1 serves the public. And there are three subway lines under construction: line 2, line 3 and line 4. Line 1 in south-north direction passes the old town and high-tech development district, linking Santunbei and Diwopu International Airport. Metro line 2 phase one will connect Yan’an Road and Huashan Street via Urumqi Railway Station, covering around 20 kilometers (12 miles). It will be operated in late 2020. Extending in the south-north direction, Urumqi metro line 3 Phase One is scheduled to connect Cangfanggou and Sigong via South Railway Station. The Phase one of subway line 4 will operate between Bainiao Lake and Qidaowan passing by 16 stations. By the end of 2030, metro lines 1-7 will operate in the city with the length of 212 kilometers (132 miles) and 121 stations. The rail transit will account for 20-25% of city’s public transportation.

According to the long-term plan, totally ten metro lines, including line 8, Nanshan Line and Wuchang Line, will develop and they will make urban rail transit accessible to the city’s major transportation junctions and suburb areas.
 

Language Used in Urumqi Subway Station

The names of the metro stations and the guiding signs in the stations are marked in three languages: Chinese, English and local Uighur language. The stations will also be announced in these three languages.

Subway line 8 will pass Tianshan, Shuimogou and Midong Districts.
Transfers along line 8: At Xingfu Road Middle, the transfer to line 2 can be achieved, and interchange with line 4 is available at Qidaowan. Besides, passengers can also transfer to line 5, line 6 and line 7 in the future.

 Nanshan Line (Maglev Train): Santunbei – Nanshan Scenic Area

 Wuchang Line (Light Rail): Passengers will take this light rail line between Changji City and Urumqi downtown within half an hour.

The university has more than one campus. I suppose you will go to the old one on Xinyi Road. If so, you could take metro line 1 from the airport to Balou, which is adjacent to the campus.

Do you start from the airport?
If yes, upon landing, you can take subway line 1 and get off at Nanmen Station, Exit D. After arriving, walk northwest around 1.2km to find the destination.

Hi, the Metro Line 1 from the airport to downtown area operates from 08:00 to 22:00.
