Detailed Itinerary
7:00 - 8:00 Hotel Pick-up
In the morning, your professional guide will wait for you in the hotel lobby. The tour guide will confirm with you the exact time one day before your Beijing day trip starts. Now let's start this Beijing day tour from the city's core area - Tiananmen Square. Follow your guide to take a morning walk around the largest city square in the world, and you can shoot distant view photos of the brilliant landmark buildings such as the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Great Hall of the People.

Walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace with the great Chairman Mao's portrait on it, we come to this morning's highlight - the 600-year-old Forbidden City - the largest and the most intact imperial palace complex of the Ming and Qing Courts (1368 - 1911 AD).
The majestic Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms! Which are the most essential and interesting parts? Our veteran itinerary designer carefully selects the top 10 palaces for you, including major ones on the traditional central axis, and some special chambers on the east and west wings.

  • Since the Forbidden City is usually not open on Mondays, we will arrange the morning visit to the Summer Palace instead of Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City if your travel date happens to meet Monday. Summer Palace is the largest and the best preserved royal garden in the world. It is a fantastic resort for travelers to admire the peaceful landscapes and magnificent architectures.
11:30 - 13:00 Drive to Mutianyu Great Wall
During the 1.5 hours' driving, the knowledgeable guide will share with you some historical facts and less-known titbits about the next spot - the Great Wall of China.
  • During the drive, we considerately provide everyone with bottles of drinking water and small local refreshments for every member, which gives you a bite of Beijing.
13:00 - 16:00 Explore Mutianyu Great Wall
All the Great Wall sights are located far from the city center and lack decent restaurants. We have no detours to the restaurants and leave you enough time on the Great Wall to make the most out of your time.
As one of the best-preserved sections of China Great Wall, Mutianyu is popular for its distinctive watchtowers and breathtaking natural scenery. You will have plenty time to climb the wall and take nice photos. The histories and stories of this world wonder shared by your professional tour guide will make your Great Wall experience more interesting and unforgettable.
  • Wise lunch suggestion: Your guide will show you Subway and Burger King at the foot of the Great Wall. The best way we recommend is to buy some takeout on your own and have a picnic on the Great Wall, which could be an exciting experience.

  • Ways to go up and down the Great Wall
Hike the whole way: If you start hiking from the North Entrance, you will reach No. 8 or No. 10 watchtower. While No. 6 or No. 8 watchtower could be accessed if you go through the South Entrance. There are around 500 steps on the mountain way. Usually it takes about half an hour getting to the watchtower whichever route you take.

Round-way cable car: You can opt to take a round-way cable car, or a chair lift up and a luge sliding down. The latter one is more popular among adventurous travelers. You can decide and purchase the cable car tickets on the spot with the help of your guide.

Hike up and cable car/luge down: You may hike one way up to the wall to experience the hardship of the laborers constructing the wall in ancient times, and then after the wall visit you may take a cable car or a luge down the wall. The cable car upper station is at the No. 14 watchtower and the luge upper station can be found at the No. 6 watchtower.

TravelChinaGuide provided me with a wonderful experience on my Beijing day trip. I would say that I was highly satisfied with everything. Our guide Gloria was so knowledgeable about every part of our trip and was polite to everyone. The driver and car were also very good. Most important of all, we did not waste any time visiting any souvenir shops, so it was a fruitful day filled with sightseeing. Highly recommend!

Overall, we have an amazing Beijing day trip to Great Wall. We want to especially thank our guide for her hard work. It was not easy to show each attraction with detailed explanations to us along the way. The only thing I would have wanted to change was having lunch before we went to the Great Wall. I was very hungry during the 2 hours' driving, although the guide provided some refreshments.
