Detailed Itinerary
7:00 - 8:00 Hotel Pick-up & Transfer to Tiananmen Square
In the morning, your professional guide will wait for you in the hotel lobby, and then a comfortable and capacious chauffeur-driven car will transfer you to Tiananmen Square.
  • The pickup time is between 7:00 and 8:00. Your tour guide will confirm with you the exact time one day before the Beijing day trip starts. If you haven't received the pick-up message before 20:00, contact your exclusive travel consultant anytime via phone or WeChat. We have your back 24 hours.
8:00 - 11:30 Visit Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City
Let's start this Beijing day tour from the city's core area - Tiananmen Square. Follow your guide to take a morning walk around the largest city square in the world, and you can shoot distant view photos of the brilliant landmark buildings such as the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Great Hall of the People.

Walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace with the great Chairman Mao's portrait on it, we come to this morning's highlight - the 600-year-old Forbidden City - the largest and the most intact imperial palace complex of the Ming and Qing Courts (1368 - 1911 AD).
The majestic Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms! Which are the most essential and interesting parts? Our veteran itinerary designer carefully selects the top 10 palaces for you, including major ones on the traditional central axis, and some special chambers on the east and west wings.

  • Since the Forbidden City is usually not open on Mondays, we will arrange the morning visit to the Summer Palace instead of Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City if your travel date happens to meet Monday. Summer Palace is the largest and the best preserved royal garden in the world. It is a fantastic resort for travelers to admire the peaceful landscapes and magnificent architectures. What's more, a boat ride on Kunming Lake of the Summer Palace will add much fun to your experience.
11:30 - 13:30 Drive to Mutianyu Great Wall
During the 2 hours' driving, the knowledgeable guide will share with you some historical facts and less-known titbits about the next spot - the Great Wall of China.
  • During the drive, we considerately provide everyone with two bottles of drinking water and small local refreshments for every member, which gives you a bite of Beijing.
13:30 - 16:00 Explore Mutianyu Great Wall
All the Great Wall sights are located far from the city center and lack decent restaurants. We have no detours to the restaurants and leave you enough time on the Great Wall to make the most out of your time.
As one of the best-preserved sections of China Great Wall, Mutianyu is popular for its distinctive watchtowers and breathtaking natural scenery. You will have plenty time to climb the wall and take nice photos. The histories and stories of this world wonder shared by your professional tour guide will make your Great Wall experience more interesting and unforgettable.
  • Wise lunch suggestion: Your guide will show you Subway and Burger King at the foot of the Great Wall. The best way we recommend is to buy some takeout on your own and have a picnic on the Great Wall, which could be an exciting experience.

  • Ways to go up and down the Great Wall
Hike the whole way: If you start hiking from the North Entrance, you will reach No. 8 or No. 10 watchtower. While No. 6 or No. 8 watchtower could be accessed if you go through the South Entrance. There are around 500 steps on the mountain way. Usually it takes about half an hour getting to the watchtower whichever route you take.

Round-way cable car: You can opt to take a round-way cable car, or a chair lift up and a luge sliding down. The latter one is more popular among adventurous travelers. You can decide and purchase the cable car tickets on the spot with the help of your guide.

Hike up and cable car/luge down: You may hike one way up to the wall to experience the hardship of the laborers constructing the wall in ancient times, and then after the wall visit you may take a cable car or a luge down the wall. The cable car upper station is at the No. 14 watchtower and the luge upper station can be found at the No. 6 watchtower.

16:00 - 17:30 Drive Back to Downtown
It usually takes about one and a half hour to drive back downtown Beijing. You can massage your legs gently and take a brief rest with your eyes closed in the car to recover from the fatigue of climbing the Great Wall.
17:30 - 17:50 Photo Stop at Olympic Bird's Nest
On the way, we will drive by the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, where you can take nice photos of its unique appearance.

Our last stop today is the lively Nanluoguxiang Hutong. With lots of boutique shops, cafes, a few pubs and restaurants, this hutong area is a great place to spend some time leisurely to feel the charms of old alleyways in Beijing, and also try the local food and snacks for your dinner. If you are interested, you can explore it at your own pace and return to the hotel by yourself. Your tour guide will offer you directions for getting back to the hotel.

If you prefer not to tour the Hutong area, your guide will take you back to the hotel after dropping the others off there. Hope you have enjoyed this day trip from Beijing to the Great Wall. Wish you a nice dream tonight!

Although it was rainy in the morning, our tour guide Tina carefully took care of us and arranged a perfect Beijing day tour. We visited Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Mutianyu Great Wall and took photos when passing by Olympic Bird's Nest. We had a good time! I highly recommend this company TravelChinaGuide and our guide Tina.

This was the perfect tour for us since we only had one full day in Beijing and wanted to do the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Our guide Candy was very informative, but also gave us plenty of time during the tour to take photos. She was patient and organized. The bus was very comfortable and more spacious than I expected for a small group tour. It was also stocked with plenty of water to keep us hydrated during the day. The only thing I would change is the last stop. The birds nest building portion could be completely eliminated as the stopping point doesn’t really offer good views for photos and is a little awkward. Instead, I would recommend that an extra stop at a restaurant between the forbidden city and Great Wall be added. Although, Candy was nice enough to help us decide where to eat before hiking the Great Wall and gave us enough time. Overall it was a great day and I would use this company for tour if I ever make it back to China. ... More

As advertised, the group was small. Including myself, we were four and the tour made the stops in the brochure. More importantly, there was no shopping. The guide's English was very good and she was easily understood. Highly recommended.
