Gudong Waterfall Scenic Area
Located to the east of Guilin, the Gudong Waterfall Scenic Area is about 25 km (16 miles) from downtown. As a natural oxygen bar, it’s a wonderful way for you to spend your weekends and vacations. A little waterfall climbing adventure tour is provided here. The longest hanging bridge in Guangxi will also provide you with an exciting experience. You can plan a day tour visiting the Gudong Waterfall Scenic Area together with Crown Cave, a famous underground karst cave nearby.
Famous as a climbing waterfall, Gudong Waterfall attracts lots of rock climbers every year. Climbers don’t have to worry about safety problems, for chains have been installed along the sides and a series of holes have been dug for you to place your feet in. Actually, the Gudong Waterfall Scenic Area is made up of eight falls and nine pools including Immortal Tortoise Drinking Water, Ancient Scholar Unfolding Book and Dragon Roaring in Deep Pool. The bottom part of the fall is a little steep, so you must hold the chains tightly. The upper part is more flat and gentle. If you are tired when climbing, you can choose to walk along the road beside the falls. Eat in advance, because climbing will take most of your energy of the trip. You can bring food or buy some in the local shops.
A set of safety equipment is necessary before climbing and is offered by the official vendors. You will not be allowed to climb if you are not properly equipped. There are two options: Option A includes a waterproof cover for your phone, shoes covers, a helmet and a pair of straw sandals for CNY10; Option B includes a little locker, a raincoat and a towel for CNY15. All the helmets should be returned at the end of your climb.
The hanging bridge in the Gudong Waterfall Scenic Area is the longest one in Guangxi, with a length of 200 meters (650 feet). Walking on the bridge, you can appreciate the beautiful red maple forest. Ancient trees tower to the sky, lovely birds abound, and flowers jostle against each other to bloom with a flourish. Take a deep breath of the fresh air and relax your body and soul here.
Walking by the 3rd Sister Lake, you will firstsee the famous Immortal Eye. From a distance, the stone reflection together with the pool looks like a real eye. The 3rd Sister Lake is not very large, and you can walk along its shore to head for the falls. Or you can have fun with a little bamboo raft trip at CNY10.
Take the Guilin-Guanyan Bus at Guilin Bus Station and get off at Gudong Lukou, which costs CNY15. Then take a motorcycle to your destination for CNY5. The Guilin-Guanyan Bus is available from 7:30 to 17:00.
Or you can take the bus above and get off at Daxu Ancient Town, where Bus 108 can pick you up and take you to the Gudong Waterfall Scenic Area. Be aware that there are only a few Bus108 provided.

There is no direct bus. You can take taxi, which takes around 20 minutes with CNY20-30.
