There are nine metro lines in service in Nanjing and they are Nanjing Metro Line 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, S1, S3, S8 and S9. Among them, Line 1, 2, 3, 4 and 10 run within the city, S1 (also named Airport Line) runs in the suburb, S3 (also called Ninghe Line) crosses the Yangtze River on a bridge, S8 (also named Jiangning Line) is an intercity line and S9 (also named Ninggao Line) is the south extension of Line S1. Nanjing metro lines link the banks of Yangtze River, the city proper, the two railway stations, Lukou International Airport and even the Luhe Development Zone together and make transportation among these places convenient. Another three routes, line 5, 7, S7 are under construction. Based on the long-range plan, Nanjing subway will build 24 lines in total.

 

Ticket Fare

The ticket fare is CNY2 for the first 10km (6mi), CNY3 for 10 to 16km (6 to 10mi), CNY4 for 16 to 22km (10 to 14mi), CNY5 for 22 to 30km (14 to 19mi), CNY6 for 30 to 38km (19 to 24mi), CNY7 for 38 to 48km (24 to 30mi), CNY8 for 48 to 58km (36 to 36mi) and CNY9 for 58 to 70km (36 to 43mi). Additional CNY1 is charged for around every 14km (9mi) if the distance is over 70km (43mi).

The line 1 and 2 costs CNY6 for the whole journey, line 3 charges CNY7, line 10 charges CNY4, line S1 charges CNY4, S3 charges CNY6 and S8 charges CNY7.

Note: Children under 4ft (1.3m) can take all metro lines free of charge.

Line 3 is another main metro line besides the line 1. This line will cross with other 11 lines at 12 stations.

 Line 4: Longjiang - Xianlinhu (west - east)
Its first phase runs from Longjiang Station to Xianlinhu Station. The west section will stretch to the New North Railway Station in the future.
Length: around 43.5km (27mi)  The first phase has 33.8km (21mi).

First Phase: Longjiang – Nanyiershi Caochangmen – Yunnanlu – Gulou – Jimingsi – Jiuhuashan – Gangzicun – Jiangwangmiao – Wangjiawan – Jubaoshan – Suning Xuzhuang – Jinmalu - Huitonglu – Lingshan– Dongliu – Mengbei – Xiganghuashu – Xianlinhu
Second Phase: Zhenzhuquan (Pearl Spring) – Dingxianghe North– Puzhu – Pujiang – CBD – Binjiang

 Line 10: Yushan Road – Andemen
Length: around 33km (21mi)  The first phase has 21.6km (13.4mi).

First phase: Yushanlu (Yushan Road) – Wendelu (Wende Road) – Longhualu (Longhua Road) - Nanjing Tech University – Pukouwanhuicheng – Linjiang – Jiangxinzhou – Luboyuan (The Afforestation Expo Park ) – Mengdudajie (Mengdu Avenue) – Olympic Sports Center – Yuantong – Zhongsheng – Xiaohang – Andemen (Ande Gate)

 Line S1: South Railway Station – Lukou International Airport
S1, also called Ninggao Line, is planned to run from Jiangning District to Gaochun Town. Currently, the first phase (also called Airport Line), runs from the South Railway Station to Lukou International Airport, and is now in use. It has eight stations. Length: around 88km (55mi)  The first phase has 35.8km (22 mi).

First Phase: South Railway Station – Cuipingshan (Cuiping Mountain) – HHU/Fochengxilu (Hehai University/Focheng West Road) – Jiyindadao (Jiyin Avenue) – Zhengfangzhonglu (Zhengfang Middle Road) – Xiangyulubei (Xiangyu Road North) – Xiangyulunan (Xiangyu Road South) – Lukou International Airport
Second Phase: Lukouxincheng (Lukou New Town) – Tongshan – Shiqiu – Mingjue – Gaochun – Gaochunnan (Gaochun South)

 Line S3: South Railway Station - Gaojiachong
Line S3, also called Ninghe Line, links Nanjing city and He County in Anhui Province and its construction will be finished in two phases. The first phase, from South Railway Station to Gaojiachong, operates currently.
Length: around 38km (23mi) for the first phase
Stations: South Railway Station – Jingmingjiayuan – Tiexinqiao – Chunjianglu – Jiaxi – Youfangqiao – Yongchulu – Pingliangdajie – Wuhoujie – Gaomiaolu – Tianbao – Liucun – Maluowei – Lanhuatang – Shuanglong – Shiqihe – Qiaolinxincheng – Linshan – Gaojiachong

 Line S8: Taishanxincun – Jinniu Lake
Length: around 45.2km (28mi)
Stations: Taishanxincun – Taifenglu (Taifeng Road) – Gaoxin Development Zone (High-tech Industries Development Zone) – NUIST (Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology) – Xiejiadian – Dachang – Getang – Changlu – Huagongyuan (Chemical Industry Park) – Luhe Development Zone – Longchi – Xiongzhou – Fenghuangshan Park – Fangzhouguangchang (Fangzhou Square) – Shenqiao – Babaiqiao – Jinniuhu (Jinniu Lake)

 Line S9: Xiangyulunan - Gaochun
Nanjing metro line S9, also called Ning Gao line, will run from Xiangyulunan to Gaochun via 6 stations.
Length: 52km (33mi)
Stations: Xiangyulunan – Tongshan – Shiqiu – Mingjue – Tuanjiewei – Gaochun

 Line S7
Line S7, also called Nanjing-Lishui line, Ningli Line for short, is a south-north line, passing Lukou area and Lishui area.
Length: around 31km (19mi)
Stations: Konggang Xincheng Jiangning (Lukou International Airport) – Zhetang – Konggang Xincheng Lishui – Qunli – Wolonghu – Lishui – Zhongshanhu – Xingzhuang – Wuxiangshan

 Line 5:
The metro line runs in the northwest-southeast direction. It passes Gulou, Qinhuai and Jiangnning District and is expected to open in 2021.
Stations: Fangjiaying – Nanjingxilu – Jianninglu – Xiaguan – Yancangqiao – Fujianlu – Hongqiao – Shanxilu – Yunnanlu – Wutaishan – Shanghailu – Chaotiangong – Sanshanjie – Fuzimiao – Dazhongqiao – Guanghuamen – Xiaotiantang – Qiqiaoweng – Jichanglu – Dajiaochang – Chalukou – Chengbeilu – Shangyuandajie – Xintinglu – Zhushanlu – Keninglu – Qianzhuang – Chengxindadao – Qingshuiting – Jiyindadao

 Line 7:
Line 7, extending in the northeast-southwest direction, covers a distance of 22 miles (36 kilometers), passing the Qixia, Gulou, Jianye and Yuhuatai Districts. There will be 27 stations in total.

The metro line S1 runs from 6:00 to 22:42 with interval of 10 minutes.

Swapping metro lines to get to destination
Hi, do I need to pay twice if I'm changing from one metro line to another to get to my destination? Do I have get out or just switch platforms? I want to switch from Line 1 to Line 2 to get to Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum

No, you don't need to pay twice. You just switch platforms. When you purchae the subway tickets, just choose your final destination.

I will stay in Nanjing for 3-4 days. Are there Metro and bus pass for tourist or refill card?
I'm not familiar with ticket machine, don't want to waste the time and don't know Chinese language.

Don't worry, you can buy the transport card at human service center of any subway station. As I know, the staff can communicate with you in simple English.
