I’m afraid that train is not workable, one of my friends met this situation before and he hired a taxi there. You are not allowed to enter the train station without a valid passport. Just for your reference.

Walking/transfer time from Beijing-Nanjing train to Nanjing-Yangzhou train
How long does it take an older couple to transfer at Nanjing coming from Beijing-Nanjing high speed train to Nanjing-Yangzhou train? Reason I am asking is that I see alot of options which are ~25mins OR 1hour 25mins. I am traveling with my parents so I am wondering if 25mins is too tight.

Thanks,
Dave

In fact the first thing is to check if you are transfer within the same station. As I see, high speed ride from Beijing stop at Nanjing South Station, unless you are taking an overnight D type. The train to Yangzhou, however, departs from the main station in Nanjing.

If within same station, normally around 30min is fine by using "transfer" passenger. But if you are very worried about the walking and with a lot luggage, 1 hour would be better.

Do you need to back to Hangzhou finally? If yes, I think you can consider Nanjing-Suzhou-Hangzhou-Ningbo-Hangzhou.

Thanks Isla. Yes, fly in to Nanjing & fly out from Hangzhou. Can Suzhou be a day tour or we have to stay in Suzhou for 1 night, then go Hangzhou? To visit Ningbo, can we set out from Hangzhou as a day trip? What do you suggest? Where do I take the train from Hangzhou to Suzhou? I think there are many stations in Nanjing & Suzhou.

One day trip in Suzhou is no problem, I am not sure about Ningbo. If you plan to visiting Mt Putou, one day trip is not enough. There are indeed many stations in each city. Which one to use depends on the detailed train you will use. Most trains depart from Nanjing South station to Suzhou and from Hangzhou to Ningbo, you would need to use Hangzhou East. The departure station will be listed online. You can check it one by one.

How long is the metro ride from Nanjing North Railway Station to XinMoFanMaLu (Shangrila Hotel)?

North Station? There is no North Station, only Nanjing Station and South Station. If you will arrive at Nanjing Station, it is close to the hotel, just one stop by metro line 1. If you will arrive at South Station, it is about 45min and 12 stops by line 1.

It seems there is no very direct way except taxi. If you do not mind make a few transfer on the way, you may take metro line S1 from the airport to Nanjing South Station first and then change to line S3 there to Gaojiachong. Finally take a taxi from the metro station to the hotel. The metro station should be around 8km away from the hotel.
