Shanghai - Suzhou High Speed Train

Currently, there are over 450 pairs of high speed trains running from early morning till late night between Shanghai and Suzhou, with the shortest interval of 1 minute and the shortest travel time of 15 minutes. The distance varies between 81 km (50 mi) and 94 km (58 mi), and a second class seat costs from CNY 21  (US$ 3) due to different running routes.

During peak seasons, such as Spring Festival and National Day Holiday, there may be more put into service.

Please note that the bullet trains are operated in more than one station in both cities. In Shanghai, Shanghai Station, South Railway Station, West Railway Station, Hongqiao Railway Station are used while in Suzhou, Suzhou Station, North Railway Station, Industrial Park Railway Station are involved. For your convenience, choose the one close to your staying places based on the schedule.

Which Station to Choose / How to Go

In Shanghai:

 Shanghai Railway Station is located close to the city center. Passengers heading for, or leaving from the urban area are recommended to use this station. Passengers can take subway line 1, line 3, or line 4 to get here.

Buses stopping here include:  Airport Line 4, 13, 41, 58, 115, 117, 305, 306, 310, 817, 823, 912, 929, 942, 962, 104, 109, 301, 302, 308, 315, 322, 324, 328, 329, 837, 898, 927, 930, 941, 955, 78, 859, 912, 963, Nanxin Special Line, Shenchuan Special Line, Nanxun Special Line, Shenfang and Hujia Special Line.

 Built especially for bullet trains, Hongqiao Railway Station is a little far from city center. But it is next to Hongqiao Airport and has more departures and arrivals than Shanghai Railway Station. Subway line 2, 10, and 17 has a station here. Buses 121 and 189; Hongqiao Airport Line 1; Hongqiao Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10 go there too.

 West Railway Station operates about 5 trains. Since located far from downtown, it is advised to passnegers whose destination is close to the station. The transportation around the station includes subway line 11 and line 15 and bus line 01, 106, 117, 129, 319, 742, 744, 768, 869, 898, 944, Changzheng line 1, Huyong Special Line.

South Railway Station is also far from city center and scenic spots. And only 4 trains end there. To travel to downtown, passengers can take subway line 1, 3 and 15. Bus line 50, 218, 301, 303, 703, 704, 729, 747, 761, 315, 867, 973, Pudong Airport Bus Line 7, Shangshi Bus Line, Hongqiao Bus Line 1, Songlong Bus Line, Nanchuan Bus Line, Nannan Bus Line, Shangfeng Special Line, Shangjia Bus Line, Shangzhu Bus Line.

In Suzhou:

 Suzhou Railway Station is situated in the urban area. Generally, it is more convenient and time-saving to use this station than other stations in the city. Passengers can take Subway Line 2 or Metro Line 4, or buses 143, 202,1, 38, 81, Night Line 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Express Line 6. Bus Lines 8, 9, 10, 19, 33, 529 and 827 to get here.

 Suzhou North is a little bit far from the city center. Those departing from or heading for the northern part of the city may use this station. It is connects with subway line 2 and buses 3, 811, 813, 817, 823, 824, 83, 84, 866, 867, 871, 873, 877, Night Bus Line 4, 7, 9 and Express Line 7.

 As the name indicates, the Industrial Park Station is within the Industrial Park. It is convenient for passengers living or working therein it to use it. Buses 1058, 109, 115, 116, 121, 137, 161, 258, 238, and 87 have a stop here.

 The New District Railway Station is located in the Xushuguan Town of the New District, even further from the city center. It is not recommended to use this station unless one is going to or coming from this district or its nearby areas. Buses available here include 34, 85, 306, 311, 326, 382, 323, 337, 529, and 815. Both subway line 3 and line 6 have a stop here.
 

Regular Trains Between Shanghai and Suzhou

There are about 34 pairs of them running between Shanghai Railway Station / Songjiang North and Suzhou Railway Station each day with a duration of 1 - 2.5 hours. The ticket fare is generally CNY 96.5 - 102.5 (US$ 14 - 15) for soft sleeper, CNY 68.5 - 70.5 (US$ 10) for a hard sleeper, and CNY 12.5 - 16.5 (US$ 2) for a hard seat.
