Lucky Number 5
People with the lucky number 5 usually tend to pursue freedom. They do not like to be bounded by their surroundings or other people. Since most of them judge or enjoy things with their senses instead of deep thought, they often do things with a bad result. On the one hand, their hedonism helps them to freely control their lives by themselves; on the other hand, the excess freedom or self-indulgence may be self-destructive to some degree. As for romantic relationships, they hold an open mind and long for love evolving from friendship. Their love affairs are usually based on a steady friendship, not love at first sight. Admittedly, they are good at handling the limits of their love affairs. Besides, once upon the romantic relationship frustration, they never stay upset for long. In general, people with this lucky number are free, adventurous and energetic. Sometimes, they are full of a sense of curiosity and contradiction.
Strong Points: Generally speaking, they are quick in mind and action, and always excite people around. With the talents to be a TV program producer, their action is dramatic and amusing. Their inner energetic personality makes them gorgeous, smart, humorous and ingenious. Moreover, they usually have an exploratory spirit so that they can be easily inspired by a sudden idea. Apart from these characteristics, “versatile talent” can be very suitable to describe their uniqueness.
Weak Points: Due to their hedonism, people often consider them superficial and untrustworthy. Their changeable temper makes them flatulent, demanding and impulsive. Therefore, in daily life, they seem to be very picky and sometimes depressed. People around often speak highly of them. In spite of this, they are not liked sometimes as they show their characteristics of being jealous, greedy, luxurious and satirical. Additionally, they show a severe lack of responsibility.
In Chinese culture, Five is widely used, for both cultural value and practical value. Clapping hands between two people in western countries (giving a high five) means “it is a deal”, “come on” or “congratulations”. To some extent, it is the same with Chinese people, when they successfully accomplish something in company. They clap hands in this case for congratulations saying “Yeah”.
No. 5 in Chinese Culture
Moreover, the famous Chinese Five Elements refer to Gold, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth, which are regarded as the basis of the whole world. In folklore, Chinese people hold the mutual restriction of the five elements: “wood restricting earth, earth restricting water, water restricting fire, fire restricting gold and gold restricting wood”. This mutual restriction principle is seriously stressed by the ancient Chinese people to show that everything in the world is mutually affected.
In Chinese feudal society, Five Cardinal Ethical Relationships were strictly observed, including the relationships between the monarch and his subjects, a father and son, a husband and wife, brothers, and their friends. Five Kinds of Main Grain (rice, two kinds of millet, wheat and beans) in ancient China were taken seriously because the frequent wars at that time usually resulted in a lack of food.
In Chinese history, No. 5 has a wide range of use in classifying things with similar characters, which makes things easy to be remembered. Here are some examples:
Wide Use of No. 5
1. Five Flavors: sweet, sour, bitter, pungent, salty
2. Five Classics in Ancient China: Classic of Poetry, Book of Documents, Book of Rites, Book of Changes, Spring and Autumn Annals
3. Five Sacred Mountains in China: Mt. Huashan in Xi'an, Shaanxi, Mt. Taishan in Shandong, Mt. Hengshan in Hunan, Mt. Hengshan in Shanxi, Mt. Songshan in Henan
4. Five Emperors: Yellow Emperor (Emperor Huangdi), Emperor Zhuanxu, Emperor Diku, Yao, Shun
In the modern society, 5 is also widely used in some internet terms and is bestowed with new meanings by the youths. For example, in 7456, 5, with its Chinese pronunciation Wu which is similar to Wo, refers to I / me. 7456 means “It even makes me mad to death”. Similarly, 7758258 means “Kiss me now, and then love me”. 555555… with its pronunciation like whimpering, imitates a person’s sad cry.
