Sunflowers Garden

Situated in the Xinken Town of Nansha District in Guangzhou, and occupying an area of 26 hectares (65 acres), the Sunflowers Garden is renowned for its millions of sunflowers. Opened to the public in April of 2002, it is the first and largest sunflower themed park in China. Over 20 varieties of sunflowers are introduced to the park from Japan and European countries. Besides, there are a lot of rare flowers from all over the world gathering here and blooming in different seasons. In the garden, there are various flower zones and joyful playground.
 

Sunflowers Field

Once visitors come to the Sunflowers Garden, the best sites to go are the sunflowers fields. Sunflowers stand for hope and vitality, for they grow towards the sun. With an area of over 26 hectares, the garden has one million of sunflowers around. During the last ten-day of April, most of them bloom at the same period, which makes the field a splendid golden sea. In other times, there are about 200,000 sunflowers blooming every day, so whenever visitor comes, they can enjoy the beautiful blossom. In addition, the garden cultivates the painter Van Gogh's favorite, a precious type of sunflower.
 

Rose Garden

There are over 20 varieties of roses in the Sunflowers Garden. Visitors can see arrays of roses in pink, red, yellow, white and blue. The most distinctive is the rose tree, which are first cultivated in China. This kind of trees is 2 - 3 meters (6.5 - 9.8 feet) tall, with hundreds of roses growing on. The lush flowers are fresh, fragrant and bright-colored, which attracts many people to witness its unrivalled beauty. On every Valentine's Day, the site becomes the best dating site for young people.
 

Seven-color Flower Land

Covering an area of 2 hectares (5 acres), the flower land has flowers in seven different colors, including yellow, red, golden, white, purple, green and orange. Carpet on the ground, the flower strips are like colorful ribbons gathering closely, forming a rainbow on the land. There are three viewing platforms, from which visitors can have a panorama view of the land.
 

Lavender Hanada

In the park, there is a lavender hanada. The lavender blooms from June to August, and the pleasant scent can be smelled from far away. When soft breeze sweeps through, all the lavenders wave together to resemble a purple sea. What's more, the flower can be used to make perfume, which symbolizes elegance and mystery.
 

Flying Rainbow

Covering an area of 0.5 hectares (1.3 acres), the Flying Rainbow is a unique sightseeing zone. Different flowers hang 15m (50 feet) high over the ground, swinging in the wind. A lot of rare plants are cultivated here, such as medinilla magnifica, mandevilla, morning glory, begonia, clematis and fuchsia. Wandering among them, visitor may wonder if the flowers come from sky.
 

Squirrel Paradise

Meanwhile, what attracts children most is the squirrel paradise, where over 1,000 squirrels inhabit. Visitors can feed them with peanut and watch their performances, such as shelling the peanuts and chestnuts, bowing and handclapping.
 

Other Scenic Spots

In addition to the above mentioned places, there is a duck pound inside the Sunflowers Garden, where visitors can select the duck to race, and they can keep the one who get the champion. Besides, the Ants Kingdom, Funny Pig, White Dove Square and Carp Corridor are also worth visiting. For kids, Global Anime Port and Happy Recreation Land are of great fun.
 

Dinning

For the delicacies there, sunflower chicken and Xinken lotus root are must try. What's more, DIY Ice Cream and Chocolate Kingdom will offer children some delicious snacks.

How to get to Sunflowers Garden

 1. Take a bus from Haizhu Bus Station straight to Baiwan Kuiyuan (Sunflowers Garden). The buses leave at 8:45 and 9:45.
 2. Take Nansha bus 2, 11, 21, 23, 25 or G1 to reach the garden directly.
 3. Take metro line 4 and get off at Jiaomen station. Then, take bus Nan G1 to the garden.

August belongs to one of the best visiting seasons. You can see sunflowers all year round and varieties of lavender, rose and sunflowers.
