Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Venues

The bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics was awarded to Beijing, its suburban Yanqing County, and the nearby Zhangjiakou by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on July 31st, 2015. All the ice sports will be staged in Beijing, while snow sports will be held in Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. There will be twelve competition venues in total: five in Beijing, two in Yanqing, and five in Zhangjiakou. At the same time, thirteen non-competition venues will be used to hold opening and closing ceremonies, to award medals, and to accommodate athletes, coaches, and media personnel. Beijing will have seven non-competition venues; Yanqing will have three; Zhangjiakou will also have three.

Competition Venues in Beijing

National Aquatics Center
National Aquatics Center

 National Aquatics Center
The National Aquatics Center is also known as the Water Cube. It is situated at the heart of the Olympic Green, a five-minute ride from the Beijing Olympic Village. As a symbolic building of the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the National Aquatics Center served as the main site for swimming competitions. During 2022 Winter Olympiad, it will be used as the site for the Curling competitions. It has 4,500 seats for spectators.

 Wukesong Sports Center
The Wukesong Sports Center is located to the northeast of the Wukesong Bridge on the West Fourth Ring Road, a fifteen-minute ride from the Village. The Women’s Ice Hockey competitions will be held here in 2022. It has 9,000 seats for spectators.

 National Indoor Stadium 
The National Indoor Stadium is located in the south of the Olympic Green, a five-minute ride from the Village. The Men’s Ice Hockey competitions will be held here. The stadium has a seating capacity of 18,000.

 Capital Indoor Stadium
Constructed in 1968, the Capital Indoor Stadium is located on the Baishiqiao Road, Haidian District, a ten-minute ride from the Village. It will be the site for the Figure Skating and Short Track Speed Skating, with a gross seating capacity of 18,000.

 National Speed Skating Oval
The National Speed Skating Oval is located in the north of the central area of the Olympic Green, a five-minute ride from the Village. It will serve as the Speed Skating competitions. It has 12,000 seats for spectators.

Competition Venues in Yanqing

 National Sliding Center
The National Sliding Center is located in the northwest of Yanqing County, a five-minute ride from the Yanqing Olympic Village. It will be the site for the Bobsleigh, Skeleton, and Luge competitions, with a gross seating capacity of 2,000 and a standing capacity of 8,000.

 National Alpine Ski Center
The National Alpine Ski Center is situated in the Xiaohaituo Mountain Area in northwest Yanqing County, a five-minute ride from the Village. The Alpine Skiing competitions in 2022 will be held here. It has a seating capacity of 5,000 and a standing capacity of 3,500 for spectators.

Competition Venues in Zhangjiakou

 Genting Snow Park A
The Genting Snow Park A is located in the east of Chongli County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, a five-minute ride from the Zhangjiakou Olympic Village. With a seating capacity of 5,000 and a standing capacity of 2,500 for spectators, it will be the site for the Freestyle Skiing,.

 Genting Snow Park B
The Genting Snow Park B is to the northeast of the Genting Snow Park A, a five-minute ride from theVillage. It will be the site for the Snowboard competitions in 2022, with a seating capacity of 5,000 and a standing capacity of 2,500. At present, the Genting Snow Park A and the Genting Snow Park B will be transformed from the existing Genting Resort Secret Garden.

 Biathlon Center
The Biathlon Center is situated in the east of Chongli of Zhangjiakou, a five-minute ride from the Village. It will serve as the Biathlon competitions in 2022, with a seating capacity of 5,000 and a standing capacity of 5,000.

 Nordic Center Ski Jumping Venue
It is located in the east of Chongli in Zhangjiakou, a five-minute ride from the Village. The Ski Jumping and the Nordic Combined competitions will be held here. It has a seating capacity of 5,000 and a standing capacity of 5,000 for spectators.

 Nordic Center Cross Country Venue
It is located in the east of Chongli in Zhangjiakou, a five-minute ride from the Village. It will be the site for the Cross Country Skiing and the Nordic Combined competitions, with a seating capacity of 5,000 and a standing capacity of 5,000 for spectators. In addition, it is adjacent to the Great Wall. So athletes and spectators can equally enjoy the magnificence of the Great Wall, one of the seven wonders in the world.
