Increasingly Low Temperatures

The overall temperature trend keeps dipping down from the beginning to the end of this month as well as from the western to the eastern Inner Mongolia. The eastern Inner Mongolia weather in November is severely cold, while the western part is just slightly.

Specifically, the daily highs in the west usually swing between 3 and 15 degrees Celsius (37 - 59 degrees Fahrenheit) and low temperatures lie between -9 and 6°C (16 - 43°F), telling that the weather of western Inner Mongolia in November is mildly cold. While, the east experiences much colder conditions: the high temperatures around midday range from -10 to 5°C (14 - 41°F) and the low values from -20 to -4°C (-4 - 25°F) - a harshly cold level.

Frequent wind is another factor leading to lower and fluctuating temperatures. Despite that most winds are not strong, they bring down the perceived temperatures, cut your skin like knives and cause headache or numb faces.

Scarce Precipitation in Multiple Forms

November receives the average precipitation of around 10 mm (0.39 in), which belongs to the scarce range compared with most destinations of China. On average, there are only about 3 days with some precipitation. Inner Mongolia climate in November is consequently dry and visitors may find their nose bleeding and throat sore when waking up in the hotel rooms with sufficient heating.

The scarce precipitation might fall in various forms including rain, sleet and snow, but they are mostly light. The western Inner Mongolia often sees rainfall and occasionally snowfall in late November, while snow drizzles dominate the east throughout the whole month. Snow view in the west lasts for only one or two days; that in the east keeps available but is thin and small-scaled in this month. However, northeast mountain areas like Arxan National Forest Park might be exceptions.

Insufficient but Mostly Sunny Daytime

Across Inner Mongolia, as the sunrise time is delayed from 6:50 to 8:10 and the sunset time advances from 18:00 - 16:00 in November, the daytime shortens from around 10.5 to 8.5 hours and becomes insufficient for sightseeing. You have to get up early so as to visit more attractions especially those in suburbs and far from each other. Fortunately, thanks to the low precipitation, the climate of Inner Mongolia in November is sunny. Averagely, the sunlight duration in this month is about 7 hours per day, which is second lowest of the year but accounts for the majority of its daylength. Under bright sunshine, accumulated snow sparkles like diamonds and pink-blue sunset is commonly seen.

Is November a Good Time to Visit Inner Mongolia?

To be honest, November is not an ideal time to visit Inner Mongolia since it provides neither beautiful natural views nor pleasant temperatures. During this month, many places cannot see snow views until late November; even if, it is thinly covered and short-lived. Though the snow in the northwest part is accumulated and long-lasting, it’s highly up to luck. Besides, the unfavorable weather conditions like coldness and dryness bring visitors unpleasant feelings. Some scenic spots and parts of tourist activities are closed as well due to low temperatures and barren landscapes.

However, there do exist some advantages if you have decided to visit there in November 2026. This month is the slack season of Inner Mongolia travel and only a few visitors can be seen. Therefore, you could save your budget by enjoying lower prices of hotels, air flights and tourist services. It suits those people who pay close attention to tranquility and travel costs.

What to Wear in Inner Mongolia in November?

Upper Body: Thermal underwear topped with hoodies, knit wear or heavy sweaters is a good match as inner layers to keep warm in both western and eastern Inner Mongolia; you may need one more fleece vest for the colder east. In terms of outer layer, you can bring 3-in-1 windbreakers, down jackets and long down coats to fight against coldness and winds.

Lower Body: For western cities, fleece-lined trousers like sweatpants, jeans and windproof outdoor pants paired with long johns or thermal leggings are warm enough in most time. If travelling to eastern destinations, change the inner layer into woolen and thick ones.

Shoes: It is highly recommended to wear anti-slippery and water-resistant boots in November if you are planning to appreciate snow views in northeast Inner Mongolia, such as padded hiking boots and snow boots. Thick sneakers work well to keep warm in other parts. Woolen socks should also be prepared for long-time outdoor activities.

Others: No matter which part of Inner Mongolia you visit, thick hats, large scarves and masks are useful to keep warm and protect you from strong winds. Gloves are of great importance for the east. Be sure to pack moisturizing products and you had better carry with lip balms and hand cream at any time.
