Inner Mongolia Weather in September

With the arrival of autumn, Inner Mongolia weather in September gets increasingly cool, but the trend is not stable and fluctuating temperatures are common. To be specific, the west is mostly pleasant and warm during daytime, while the east is crisp and chilly. As the local rainy season ends, the precipitation drops back to a low level and leads to dry air throughout the whole region. Luckily, the sunlight remains abundant and bright. Colorful autumn views also become available for visitors, but you need to mind the regional variations.

Pleasant West, Cool East

The general temperature trend in September is downward, but in view of the large areas of Inner Mongolia, there exist some regional differences and the west is around 5 - 10 degrees Celsius (41 - 50 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than the east.

For western Inner Mongolia, the daytime high temperatures usually fluctuate between 19 and 26°C (66 - 79°F) and the low degrees between 9 and 15°C (48 - 59°F), which brings warm days but cool nights. While, the weather of eastern Inner Mongolia in September is crisp and chilly as the daily highs normally range from 14 to 22°C (57 - 72°F) and the night lows from 5 to 11°C (41 - 52°F).

Please also note due to the fluctuating temperatures, the actual weather condition in September is somewhat complicated. Both lingering heat in summer and large temperature drops occur randomly during this month. For several days, the max temperatures might be high around 28°C (82°F) and by the late half, the min degrees could drop to around 0°C (32°F) especially in the east. Visitors had better prepare multiple layers of clothes so as to adjust your dressing accordingly.

Precipitation: Significant Drops

As the local rainy season has passed, the whole region experiences significant precipitation decreases. The monthly average precipitation is relatively low, varying from 40 - 60 mm (1.57 - 2.36 in) in different parts, distributed over 8 days around. Therefore, Inner Mongolia climate in September becomes dry and occasional strong winds further aggravate this situation.

The primary precipitation forms are drizzles and brief showers, but they are actually not frequent. In light rain, you could walk for minutes to find shelters with only a little wet. In general, the low precipitation doesn’t interrupt your schedule. By late September, the northeastern Inner Mongolia might see light snowfall, for example Mordaga National Forest Park around the Great Khingan areas. But it usually melts soon and leaves little accumulated snow.

Decreasing but Sufficient Daytime Length

In most places of Inner Mongolia, the daytime is around 13.5 hours at the beginning of September; with later sunrise and earlier sunset, it decreases to about 12 hours by the end of this month, but still ample for day trips overall. In different parts, the sunrise time ranges from 5:10 - 7:00 and sunset time from 19:40 - 17:40. On the same day, the sunrise and sunset in the most northeastern Hulunbuir is about 1 hour earlier than the most southwestern Alxa.

Thanks to the low rainfall, the region enjoys an average sunlight time of 8 hours approximately per day, meaning the climate of Inner Mongolia in September is clear and sunny. With high visibility, visitors could conduct their most sightseeing under azure sky and bright sunshine. However, don’t slack on sun protection though the UV index falls a little to level 7.
