Is it a Good Month to Visit Jinan in June?

Pros

The lotus flowers at Daming Lake bloom in June, with lush green lotus leaves stretching out in patches, dotted with white or pink lotus blossoms. Although the summer sun is scorching, the spring parks are shaded by lush trees, and the cool spots by the water offer a refreshing respite from the heat; besides, water play at spring parks is the perfect summer activity.

Cons

The super-hot weather is the biggest stumbling block. Burning sunshine would steal all of your energy and patience. 4 - 5 bottles of water are needed to keep yourself hydrated during the day. Although Jinan has the longest day in June, the valid time for sightseeing is not generous, just 2-3 hours in very early morning and time after sunset.

What to Do in Jinan in June?

View Lotus Flowers at Daming Lake

Daming Lake is the best place to see the special summer flower. The lake surface is covered with seas of lotus leaves decorated with lotus flowers in June and dotted with swimming black swans. The lotus flower is cherished by Chinese people for its purity and enlightenment as it sprouts out of the mud yet blooms neatly and radiantly, thus lotus flower appreciation is a must do for most Chinese in summer. The best time to appreciate is at dawn when the lake surface is dyed golden by the setting sun. After, Chaoran Pavilion is lit up at twilight, then it’s time for the night view.

Play Water at Spring Parks

Baotu Spring Park, Wulongtan Park and Black Tiger Spring Park set water play areas for visitors and are always the family staple during summer months. Wulongtan is the most popular one for its biggest playing areas and free entrance. Even though the city is scorched by the sun, the cool and clear spring waters lower your temperatures rapidly and unlike playing in the sea water, rinsing off is not needed. It’s the best activity in summer to entertain your chirpy kids and yourself.

Travel Tips

1. Avoid the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, as accommodation prices are much higher and scenic spots are packed with tourists.

2. Remember to bring a spare set of clothes if you plan to play in the water. Water toys such as water guns and fishing nets are available for purchase at the park. It’s not advisable to go barefoot into the pools, since some areas are slippery and you could easily fall.

3. Insect repellent is needed if you walk by the water.
