Jinan climate in August is characterized by frequent and intense rainfall which always comes together with thunderstorms and strong winds and easily drenches the streets temporarily. There are more than 10 rainy days, sometimes 2 - 3 are consecutive. Significant rainfall in some years reaches half of the annual total, resulting in high humidity and sometimes causing damp air. But mostly, the rain brings fresh air and cool weather, making the time after rain perfect for outdoor activities. So don’t let the rain deter you. Another bright side is that the rain is usually short-lived, intermittent and won’t disrupt your itinerary. If you encounter rain, just find shelter nearby and you can continue your journey soon after. Rainfall in Jinan is also many times regional, which means it might be heavily rainy here but brightly sunny there.

Is August a Good Month to Visit Jinan?

It’s not among the best months. First of all, it is still hot. Secondly, the frequent rainfall may stop you from going outside for some while. The good thing is that higher rainfall contributes to higher underground water level, and hence more vibrantly gushing springs. At last, August is part of the summer vacation in China and you will encounter more visitors, even crowds at those scenic spots; and the flight ticket and accommodation rate will rise.

Travel Advice and Tips

1. The Baotu Spring, Black Tiger Spring, Five Dragon Pool and more have welcomed their flooding period in August thanks to the abundant rainfall, so the spring mouths are gushing like boiling water, more vigorously than usual. In summer, temperatures of the water remain around 18℃ (64℉), you will have a great fun immersing your foot into the cool pool.
2. The watercourses may release water after frequent intense rain, so the sightseeing boat may stop service.
3.  It’s advised to arrange outdoor sightseeing in the early mornings and late afternoons when it’s not that hot, like a stroll along Daming Lake at dusk also for its beautiful night views; around noon, it’s more advised to have a rest in your hotel room or visit some indoor sites like Shandong Provincial Museum.
4. Book your flight and hotel in advance for relatively lower price and in case they are sold out. After all, it’s the peak season here in August.
