Shanghai Disneyland Park Set to Open on June 16, 2016

Published: Jan. 13, 2016

On January 13, 2016, the joint shareholders of Shanghai Disney Resort, Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group, declared that Shanghai Disneyland Park would officially start receiving visitors on June 16, 2016. This is the first Disneyland Park in mainland China. A grand opening ceremony will be held for several days to welcome the first group of guests.

The park was originally scheduled to be opened by the end of 2015, but was delayed because additional investment had been made to build more attractions.

What are the differences between this park and the others?

In comparison with the other five Disney resorts, Shanghai Disneyland Park features unique attractions and recreational activities. Many elements associated with Chinese culture are integrated into the arrangements. In the Garden of the Twelve Friends, the 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac are depicted by the most popular Disney characters. The Enchanted Storybook Castle, the highest and biggest castle in the Disney Empire, is decorated with a golden peony, presenting an elegant Chinese style. As well, there are the Star Wars Launch Bay and Marvel Universe, which are specially designed for Shanghai Disneyland Park.

How about the ticket price?

The one-day admission ticket is priced at CNY 370 on ordinary days; CNY 499 at weekends, public holidays, July and August; and CNY 499 during the opening ceremony (June 16 - 30, 2016). Visitors buying the two-day ticket can enjoy a 5% discount on the basis of the original price. As the ticket sale will begin from March 28, 2016, visitors can book tickets on the official website of the park or by calling 400-180-0000 or 86-21-31580000. One can book five tickets at most.

Where is the park and how to get there?

The park is located in Chuansha Town between Pudong Airport and the downtown area, 20 miles (32 km) from downtown and 12 miles (19 km) from Pudong Airport. It is reported that the Disneyland Park Station on Subway Line 11 will be opened after the opening of this park for the benefit of tourists.

Will it be too crowded, as other popular attractions in China?

As the first Disneyland Park in mainland China, there is no doubt that this park will win popularity among tourists. However, they do not need to worry about too many people, because the number of visitors will be controlled. In addition, 30-40 entrances will be arranged and it will not take too long to check in.

What will the park bring to Shanghai?

The park will greatly enhance Shanghai's competitiveness in the tourism market and make contributions to its economy. It is expected to receive more than ten million of visitors in the first year.

Chinese academics say it may contribute $3.3 billion to Shanghai's economy each year and make up one percent of the city's annual GDP.
