Guangzhou Ocean World

Guangzhou Ocean WorldSituated within Guangzhou Zoo, Guangzhou Ocean World covers an area of 13,000 square meters (about 139,931 square feet) and has more than 200 kinds of fish and many other rare ocean creatures. It is a high-tech exhibition hall serving sightseeing, entertainment, research and education purposes.

Guangzhou Ocean World is divided into different areas to exhibit the marine world from all aspects.
 

Ocean Square

Before entering the exhibition hall, visitors are first greeted by the Ocean Square. It tells evolution stories of aquatic lives in the form of relief sculptures.
 

Sightseeing Tunnel

Then, visitors enter the exhibition hall through a tunnel with elevators, where they will see colorful fish swimming around in a coral thicket. The coral thickets are so close to visitors that it is as if one can touch them and even have eye contact with the inhabitants.
 

Kelp Hall

Going out of the tunnel, visitors will see a two-storey high glass column full of kelp. The giant kelp look so naturally formed and fish are freely swimming among it.
 

Deep-sea Scenery

The next attraction in Guangzhou Ocean World is 'Deep-sea Scenery'. The water is 10 meters deep and the volume reaches 1,100 cubic meters (about 38,846 cubic feet). It is a microcosm of the real marine world. Varied and graceful corals display their beauty and elegance while different types of fish play with each other. There are also 8 other theme displays further telling you the stories happening in the subsurface marine world. Even the smaller exhibits house rare miniature creatures.
 

Freshwater World & Other Attractions

The 'Freshwater World' is 4 exhibits of fish from high mountains waters to low land pools. Besides these sites, a touching pond, rocky beaches, tropical rainforests, an ocean theater and education hall are also attractions of the Guangzhou Ocean World. Sharks, penguins, seals, turtles and sea lions live in specialized areas. Visitors may see scenes of sharks hunting, seals swimming, and southern China snowing, etc in these exhibition halls.
 

Internative Projects

The Guangzhou Ocean World also offers interactive projects. Visitors can feed the ocean creatures themselves and have close communication with these interesting creatures. In addition, visitors can swim in the pond with trained sharks and turtles, equipped with diving outfit and accompanied by coaches holding certificates from World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS). It is fun, exciting and safe as well.
 

Performances

Besides these exhibitions, Guangzhou Ocean World also offers some wonderful performances, such as dolphins flying, sea lions catching lassoes and playing goal throwing, sharks hunting and mermaids dancing. The performing times are arranged as follows:

How to get to Guangzhou Ocean World

1. Take Metro Line 6 and get off at Shaheding Station. Get out from Exit A and walk west to the north gate of the Zoo. The ocean world is close to the north gate.
2. Take bus 6, 16, 65, 78, 85, 112, 192, 199, 201, 219, 236, 246, 290, 535, 547, 833, 862b, 862 or University Town Line 4, and get off at Dongwuyuan (Zoo) Station. Then enter from the North Gate.
3. Take bus 72, 74, 84a, 84, 127, 220, 482, 706, Peak Express Line 8 or Peak Express Line 79, and get off at Zoo Bus Terminal.

Is the Guangzhou Ocean World already closed?
We went there in January this year, 2018. But, it was closed. I think it has long been closed. Please help me confirm. Thanks

How can I reach Ocean World from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport?

Take metro line 3 from airport to Yantang Station first. Then transfer to line 6 to Shaheding Station, Exit A. The whole way takes around 40 mins. It costs CNY 7 per person.
After that, walk west for about 600 yards to get there.
