1. The vast grasslands in Hohhot are noticeably green by late May, so it’s advisable to visit Chilechuan Grassland near the city center. If you just want to have a cultural tour and experience Inner Mongolia culture, visit Dazhao Temple, Xilituzhao Palace and Inner Mongolia Museum. On sunny days, you can try on traditional costumes and take impressive photos against the background of the ancient temples. 

2. In early May, you can still catch various flowers in full bloom in Hohhot. Therefore, why not watch liacs in the General Government Office and crabapple blossoms in Qingcheng Park? For a perfect photo, you are advised to wear light-colored clothes. 

3. Early May coincides with one of the longest public holidays in China: May Day Holiday, which fuels the domestic travel rush. During this period, tourist numbers and hotel prices would skyrocket. Most noticeably, train tickets are extremely hard to book. But compared with other popular travel cities, like Beijing and Xi’an, Hohhot is a rather calm place during the holiday, which is still recommended. Just remember to book your hotel and train tickets in advance.
