But if you visit suburban areas, such as Hongshiya Cliff and Chilechuan Grassland, you need to know that these places experience a cooler climate, which make them perfect places to escape summer heat. 

June marks the beginning of the rainy season in Hohhot, with moderate rainfall and increasing rainy and cloudy days. Even though, the total rainfall is not large, averaging 49 mm over 9 rainy days. The rain is mostly in the form of moderate and light rainfall, with occasional thunderstorms. Additionally, the rain typically doesn’t last long, and the sky turns clear very quickly. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about your outdoor plans being disrupted by rainy weather. But still, it’s advisable to carry an umbrella with you in case it suddenly falls.

Footwear: Sneakers and sandals are both suitable for city sightseeing; non-slip hiking shoes are highly recommended for hiking on grasslands or in occasional rainy days.

Sun-protective items: Sunglasses, sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat. 
 

Hohhot’s climate in June is suitable for various activities. Obviously, grasslands are the soul of Hohhot tourism. Visitors can not only witness the vast and prosperous greenlands, but also experience unique nomadic activities, such as horse riding, archery, wrestling, bonfire parties, and staying overnight in a yurt, a distinctive Mongolian dwelling. Recommended grasslands include Chilechuan Highland Grassland, Huitengxile Grassland and Hadamen National Forest Park. 
 

Besides, Xiangshawan Desert is fully open this month, featuring various amusement equipment and camel riding. 
 

Apart from natural scenery, historical heritages in Hohhot offer an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn about local culture and history. These attractions are must-sees: Dazhao Temple, Xilituzhao Palace and Five-Pagoda Temple. If you want to try local cuisine, head to the Saishanglaojie Street.
