As August is the rainy season, pack a compact umbrella.

2. Although August is the summer holiday in China, Hohhot receives fewer tourists compared with other hotspot destinations. But still, it’s best to avoid visiting on weekends and book the hotel and train tickets in advance. 

3. Hohhot City Naadam Celebration usually lasts through August, held at Dahei River Military Culture Park. It offers an excellent chance to experience authentic Mongolian customs. You can watch wrestling, horse racing and archery. Just in case, remember to check the exact date before your visit. 

4. It’s always a smart move to check the weather forecast frequently, because there is still a possibility of extreme weather, such as heavy downpours. If it happens, staying in the city center is a good choice. You can visit Dazhao Temple, Xilituzhao Palace and Inner Mongolia Museum. 

5. For grassland lovers, you are highly recommended to visit the grasslands before late August, when the grasslands are at their greenest. By late month, the grasslands may start to turn yellow gradually.
