If it rains or snows, will the itinerary be affected? If your itinerary focuses mainly on the urban sites, there’s absolutely no need to worry about it. First, both rain and snow are usually light and don’t last long, meaning that outdoor activities are still OK. And Lhasa in the snow is uniquely beautiful. Second, since temperatures are already not very low at this time of year, the roads generally won’t become icy and slippery because of the rain or snow. However, if your itinerary involves higher-altitude areas around Lhasa where the temperature is lower, such as Yamdrok Lake, you should be aware that the roads may be icy and slippery.

Is the air in Lhasa in March too dry to make people feel uncomfortable? Absolutely. At this time, the average humidity here is only 27%. Without taking precautions, you will likely experience noticeable discomfort in your skin, throat, and nose.

Daylight Hours & Sunshine Hours

Daylight hours increase little by little, from 11.3 to 12.3 hours throughout the month. Since the daytime is long enough, you are recommended to take your time and make sure to get plenty of rest to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

Low precipitation guarantees long sunshine hours, which are about 8 per day on average. In other words, most of the time during your Lhasa trip in March, the clear blue skies and perfect sunshine of the plateau make attractions like the Potala Palace appear even more magnificent.

However, even though March is just the beginning of spring, the UV rays are extremely strong because of the thin air, with the UV index as high as 10 during midday - a level that may cause burning skin in 30 minutes.
