5 Things You Must Do in Shanghai in September

In September, it is late summer in Shanghai. The slightly cooler temperature makes it a good month to travel there, either for outdoor activities or sightseeing. What are the things you must do in Shanghai when traveling there in September? Check it out for yourself.

1

Have Fun at the Shanghai Disneyland Park

As one of the top things to do in Shanghai in September, various indoor and outdoor activities at the Disneyland Park won’t let you down. Tourists can follow the “Pirates of the Caribbean” to find treasures, take the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and try not to lose their bearings at the Alice in Wonderland Maze. Also, you can hug the Disney characters and ask them for their autographs, take photos with your favorite Marvel hero, and feast your eyes on the Flower Parade on Mickey Avenue and the fireworks show at around 8:30 p.m. Remember to bring your camera to capture your happy moments in front of the beautiful castle as well as the fancy stores. To save time standing in lines, you can get a Free Pass Card for certain activities at the service center.

Roam around the Yu Garden

What to do in shanghai in September? The fine weather makes a visit to Yu Garden a must do thing in Shanghai. The well laid-out pavilions, corridors, rockeries and ponds in this classical Chinese garden will impress you. The lush bamboo grove, willows, pines and cypresses make the garden secluded and appealing. Standing on the Nine Bend Bridge (Jiuquqiao), tourists can watch the goldfish and red carps swimming below. If time permits, why not have a cup of tea at the Mid-lake Pavillion (Huxinting)? After the visit, don’t forget to try the famous Nanxiang Steamed Buns at the nearby Yuyuan Bazaar.

Treat Yourself with the Delicacies at the Old City God Temple

The Old City God Temple is about 200m (220yd) south from the Yu Garden. Unlike the latter, famous for its beautiful scenery, this place is considered a paradise for gourmets. Many of its specialties are steamed foods, including crystal dumpling and chicken feet! If you have a sweet tooth, come and try the pastries made of mashed taro or red bean paste, or the Sweet Porridge with a sprinkling of fragrant osmanthus flowers. The spicy Bean Curd and the Ningbo Dumplings with generous stuffing are also popular dishes at the Old City God Temple. Buying some snacks as souvenirs here is another must do in Shanghai. We recommend the Spiced Beans and the Pear Syrup Candy, and, interestingly, the latter also helps suppress coughs.

Enjoy the Osmanthus Fragrance at the Zuibaichi Park

Enjoying the osmanthus fragrance, another thing must do in Shanghai, distinguishes Zuibaichi Park from other classical Chinese gardens in this city. In September, the whole park is redolent with the sweet fragrance of osmanthus flowers. These yellow, white and red blossoms hiding in the trees are very visually attractive. Also, tourists can take a walk along the pond and see the beautiful lotuses. Apart from the vegetation and the traditional architecture, people can admire the Chinese calligraphies on the plaques, tablets and stone carvings at Zuibaichi Park.
Given the nice weather, an excursion to the Xinchang Ancient Town is one of the top things to do in Shanghai in September. This historical site was a prosperous salt farm, and tourists can still feel that prosperity in the old houses, arched stone bridges and stone archways built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). The traditional barbershops and grocery stores, together with the exquisite boutiques and cafes, are worth paying a visit. Popular snacks here are the stinky tofu and the steamed pork dumplings.
