Xiamen Weather in April

The weather of Xiamen is getting warmer and warmer in April, with a high temperature of 16 - 29 degrees Celsius (60.8 - 84.2 degrees Fahrenheit) which is really pleasant for outdoor travel, and a low value of 13 - 23℃ (55.4 - 73.4℉). When the sun shines brightly, the temperature can reach 30℃ (86℉). You feel cool in the early morning and late evening, as well as when you take the ferry to Gulangyu Island as the sea wind blows.

But don’t worry. The rainfall often occurs in the form of showers from afternoon to night, sometimes accompanied by lightning storms and strong winds, which ends quickly. You only need to find some indoor spots as shelters temporarily. 

Air humidity remains a high 82%, but people don’t feel sticky with blowing breeze. Just be aware that your clothes may always be damp.
 Xiamen only gets 4 hours of sunshine daily on average in April. The major reason lies in frequent rainfall. Besides, the cloud in the sky increases greatly with active warm and humid air currents, veiling the sun. However, the UV index is always high, even on cloudy days.

The daylight duration reaches 13 hours a day from 5:33 - 5:59 to 18:23 - 18:36, so you have enough time to arrange your travel schedule.
 There is a lot of fog, especially in the early morning when the temperature remains low at coastal areas. This is because warm and humid air currents bring abundant water vapor. It often appears at the same time as rain when the air humidity is high. Ferry service to Gulangyu Island can be affected by heavy fog with poor visibility, so be sure to check the climate conditions of Xiamen in April beforehand.
  Clothes
It’s OK to wear a T-shirt with jeans during sunny daytime. Women can also wear long summer dress. If you go out in the early morning or evening, add a short trench coat or thin jacket, particularly when you have fun near the sea; it is also needed when you take the ferry. Besides, if there is space left in your suitcase, pack spare quick-dry clothes in case others get wet easily in humid air.

 Shoes
Lightweight non-slip sneakers are highly advised for travelers visiting Xiamen in April 2026, because at most popular destinations like Gulangyu Island, South Putuo Temple, Jimei, Hulishan Fortress, and Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, you need to walk for a long time. Meanwhile, the stone road on the island and Zengcuo’an Village can be slippery after the rain.

 Other items to pack
Sun protective items like sunglasses, sun hat, and sunscreen are necessary, especially for activities by the sea during sunny time. Besides, carry a parasol with you, which can resist both sunshine and rain. 
 1. Other than those must-see destinations, you can also appreciate charming azalea blossoms at Huli Park and bougainvillea, the city flower of Xiamen, anywhere. Although the latter can be seen all year round, April is the period when it’s in full bloom.

2. For those who are allergic, wear a mask when traveling around as the pollen level can be high. 

3. It’s not a good time to do water activities in the sea, because the seawater temperature is still low.

4. If you meet rain on Gulangyu Island, indoor Shuzhuang Garden and Hi Heaven Villa can be temporary shelters. Baicheng Beach is not advised on rainy days because its low terrain may put you in a dangerous situation.

5. It’s not advised to ride along Island Ring Road on foggy days for the sake of security.

6. Put some dehumidifier bags in your suitcase and the wardrobe in your hotel to avoid clothing odor.
